Over the course of six litter workshops, our amazing pupils rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in collecting an incredible 3,627 pieces of litter from our local area! ��

What made it even more fascinating was discovering so much vintage litter along the way. From retro crisp packets to decades-old wrappers and bottles, it was like uncovering a time capsule of packaging history. The children were amazed to see how some items had been sitting in the environment for years a powerful reminder of why reducing waste and disposing of litter properly is so important.

By the end of the workshops, buckets were filled, teamwork was shining, and everyone had learned just how big a difference small actions can make. ��️

Little Litter Warriors Visit St Joseph’s RC Primary School, Droitwich Spa.

This week Little Litter Warriors visited St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Droitwich as part of their mission to care for our local environment and inspire young eco-champions.

Across two action-packed days, pupils from Reception through to Year 6 took part in litter-picking activities both on-site and out in the local community. From the school playground and car park to nearby parks and community areas, the children worked tirelessly to make a difference.

Timetable Highlights:

• Whole School Assembly to launch the event

• Reception & KS1 pupils tackled playground and school grounds

• KS2 pupils headed off-site to local parks and community spaces

• Staff and parent volunteers supported throughout

�� Children involved:

Over 175 pupils participated across all year groups.

�� Total litter collected:

An amazing 7,196 pieces of litter removed from the local environment! A total of 13 bags collected altogether.

�� competition results:

• Year 6 collected the most litter with 2,228 pieces

• Year 2 discovered the “oldest” find from 1995 a walkers crisp packet.

Other vintage finds were from 1998, 1999, 2004 upwards to the present day.

The visit perfectly reflected the school’s ethos: “We are Stewards of God’s Creation.” Pupils showed fantastic teamwork, responsibility and pride in caring for their community.

A huge thank you to the staff, volunteers and, of course, the children of St Joseph’s for being such enthusiastic Little Litter Warriors. Together, we are making Droitwich Spa cleaner and greener!

Simply explain what a circular economy is!

The circular economy is a transformative way of thinking about how we design, make, use, and manage products and materials so they never become waste and nature is regenerated. Instead of the traditional take, make, dispose model, a circular economy keeps materials and products in use for as long as possible through repairing, reusing, refurbishing, remanufacturing and recycling, while also supporting regeneration of natural systems.

This approach is driven by three core principles:

1. Eliminate waste and pollution by designing them out of systems.

2.Circulate products and materials at their highest value through reuse, repair, refurbishment, and recycling.

3.Regenerate nature by returning biological materials safely to the environment and using renewable energy.

This model isn’t just good for the planet — it also fosters innovation, economic resilience, and new ways of thinking about value.

Monday 9th February 2026, Upton Snodsbury Primary School took to their community with little Litter warriors collecting an impressive 1,224 pieces of litter from their shared community spaces. Their effort shows how small actions can spark bigger conversations about how we use, reuse, and value resources. Finding litter dating back decades is fun for the pupils, teacher and us however the message it holds is always much more powerful.

The introduction of a circular economy in education is about redesigning how things are made, bought, and used—moving away from throwaway habits and towards smarter, more sustainable ways of sharing resources. Every step can introduce cost effective ways of running schools, less wastefulness is needed and restoring harmony in school spaces is key.

Litter picking is my choice — not an obligation.

Volunteers who pick litter deserve thanks, not expectations. They step up because they care about their communities, not because it’s their responsibility.

Joining a council initiative like “Adopt a Street” does not mean taking on the duties of the council. It means choosing to volunteer — to help, not to replace paid services or quietly plug funding gaps.

At the same time, we all have a role to play. The public should take their litter home and make simple individual choices to keep communities litter-free — for the sake of wildlife, nature, and the places we all share.

That’s why it still matters: councils need more money in their budgets to provide vital environmental services. Clean streets, safe roadsides, and protected green spaces are essential public services and require proper, sustained investment.

Community pride and public responsibility can coexist. Volunteers add value. Individuals must act responsibly And councils must be funded to deliver.

Gothenburg Education visit

For my 20th wedding anniversary my husband brought me to Gothenburg, �� this week. Why my passion for environmental change. After studying this city and now experiencing it, I really love Gothenburg because sustainability just feels… normal here. Reuse isn’t a special initiative, it’s part of everyday life. Waste is treated as something that can move in circles, not something that disappears. The streets are clean, there’s very little litter, and shared green mobility is everywhere — all quietly encouraging better habits without making a big fuss about it.

It’s a city designed to help people do the right thing. No guilt, no pressure — just smart systems, thoughtful planning, and a shared sense of responsibility.

Gothenburg shows that reducing, reusing and public behaviours with our environmental impact doesn’t have to be complicated. When reuse, circular waste flows, and care for public spaces are built in, sustainability becomes something everyone can take part in. Speaking with locals it’s been a huge joint human effort from residents, businesses and updated systems introduced to achieve it all.

What an amazing visit last week to Leigh’s & Bransford Primary School with the fantastic Year 4 class ��

The pupils took part in an interactive classroom workshop on plastic pollution, learning how litter from our communities doesn’t just stay local — it impacts our oceans ��, green spaces �� and shared areas we all use.

What an incredible day visiting St Wulstan’s RC Primary School in Stourport! ��

The pupils took part in two hands-on litter workshops and a whole school assembly exploring Our Planet �� — and how litter dropped inland doesn’t just disappear, but can travel all the way to our oceans ��.

During the litter pick, the children uncovered items dating back to 1991, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2013… right through to 2026 �� — a powerful reminder of how long litter can stay in our environment.

Year 6 pupils collected 706 pieces of litter and year 5 pupils picked up 1111 pieces of litter. Year 6 pupils found the oldest piece dating 1991.

Even in rainy conditions ☔️, the pupils showed incredible passion, determination and teamwork, picking up every single piece they could find. Their enthusiasm was unstoppable and truly inspiring ✨

These pupils are true heroes of their community, proving that caring for our planet starts locally and that small actions make a big difference ��

With 9 workshops and 420 pupils involved, we managed to collect a staggering 5204 pieces of litter �� from the school and local community areas. It was eye-opening to see litter dating back to 1998, highlighting the need for more community engagement in keeping our environment clean. The passion and enthusiasm shown by the pupils was truly inspiring, and we are proud to have created new little litter warriors at the school. During a litter pick workshop at Hanley Castle, a bush revealed decades-old hidden litter, sparking shock and disgust among 60 year 7 pupils and teachers. This event serves as a valuable lesson in the importance of uncovering and addressing hidden litter in our communities. The workshop highlights the significance of not only addressing visible litter, but also actively seeking out and removing hidden waste that poses environmental and aesthetic threats. By raising awareness and actively participating in clean-up efforts, individuals can contribute to creating and maintaining cleaner, healthier communities for all to enjoy.

It's important to be mindful of the impact litter can have on our environment, especially when it comes to our furry and feathered friends. Animals mistaking litter for food can lead to serious health issues, while habitat destruction can disrupt their homes. Entanglement in plastic waste is a real danger, causing harm or even death. Chemical pollution from decomposing litter can harm ecosystems and food sources, leading to biodiversity loss. Let's all do our part in keeping our surroundings clean and protecting the delicate balance of nature for our wildlife friends to thrive.

Todays litter pick was a huge success that seen 60 pupils collect a massive 3480 pieces of litter that fitted in to 7 bags. We worked to free the bush of litter and cleaned up their sport court areas and around the bushes at the back.

Himbleton CofE Primary School took part in a special litter pick to help make their local community and school cleaner and greener. At Lindridge St Lawrence CE Primary School, we had an exciting day filled with fun as part of our Little Litter Warriors class workshops. The students and teachers worked together to hunt for litter around the school grounds and the car park. Although it was a bit wet at times, we didn’t let the weather stop us! Everyone was eager to help, and we managed to collect a lot of rubbish. This was a special experience for me because we had to take our last group to a community location by bus to continue our litter picking. It was worth it! Claines CE Primary school year 4 once again took part in a big litter picking event, and it was a great success! Many people from the community joined together to clean up the parks and streets. With gloves and bags in hand, they walked around picking up trash and making the area look beautiful. Everyone worked happily, chatting and enjoying the fresh air. Children and adults alike helped to collect plastic bottles, wrappers, and food packaging litter. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces working as a team. By the end of the workshop, the team had filled many buckets with rubbish. They not only made the environment cleaner but also made new friends and strengthened their community. Litter picking is important because it helps keep nature clean and safe for everyone.

Year Five took part in an important lesson about plastic pollution, led by Karen Blanchfield BEM from Little Litter Warriors. The lesson helped students understand how plastic can harm our planet. Karen explained what plastic is and why it is a problem for the environment. She showed them how plastic waste can hurt animals and pollute our oceans. The children learned clever ways to reduce plastic use, like using reusable bags and bottles. They also talked about recycling and how it can help keep our world clean. At the end of the lesson, pupils felt inspired to make changes in their daily lives. They even promised to share what they learned with their families and friends. By participating in this lesson, Year Five became more aware of the importance of taking care of our planet and will try to be Little Litter Warriors in their own way.

Every year in the summer term, I visit Defford Cum Besford School to take the Oak class, which has Year 3 and 4 pupils, on a litter pick workshop. The children look forward to this event and take part with so much energy and enthusiasm. It is amazing to see how eager they are to help keep their school and local area clean. We walk around picking up litter and talking about the importance of taking care of our environment. Each year, it seems that we are finding less litter than before, which is a good thing! However, this also makes it harder to discover hidden treasures, like vintage items that we used to find in the past. Overall, the experience is fun and teaches the children valuable lessons about respect for nature and teamwork. I hope we can continue this workshop for many more years to come!

II returned to complete the litter workshops with reception, Year 2, and Year 6. This visit was wonderful because, while I checked the area before the workshop began, I discovered a bucket filled with litter. As I looked closer, I noticed many vintage pieces, and my mind began to wonder where they had come from. My little investigation led me to two boys in Year 3. They had decided to make it their mission to clean up the environment after the hedges had been cut back. They were working hard to pick up the hidden litter that had been stuck in the soil. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and dedication to keeping our surroundings clean. Their efforts reminded me how important it is for everyone, young and old, to take care of our environment. Overall, the day was filled with learning and a sense of community. The litter workshops were a big success and lasted all day. The students spent their time picking up trash in the playground, around the school car park, and near the church. They also worked hard in their community areas. The pupils showed a lot of enthusiasm, and many people stopped to thank them for their efforts. By the end of the day, they had collected an amazing total of 3,466 pieces of litter! Inspired by their classmates, the Year 3 pupils decided they wanted to do more. They wrote a letter to their Member of Parliament (MP) about the litter in their community. This showed how much they cared about keeping their area clean. Their hard work and commitment to improving their surroundings made a real difference, and it gave them a sense of pride in their accomplishments. The day was not just about cleaning up; it was about community and taking action.

Every year, when I return to Holy Redeemer, I am welcomed back by the staff and pupils with so much warmth and kindness. It truly makes me feel like I am part of their school family. This year's visit was especially memorable, as I had the chance to meet many inspirational young minds. I want to congratulate everyone at the school for their amazing work in teaching about the environment. The eco curricula here are among the best I have ever seen, and it is clear that the students are engaged and excited about these important topics. WHAT A DAY, St Richards you are incredible

St Richard's what a day, it just shows that challenging ourselves can make it happen. What an incredible day filled with challenges and achievements! A total of 360 enthusiastic pupils participated in six engaging litter workshops, working diligently to clean up their school and surrounding community areas. This is a densely populated region, often plagued with litter, demonstrating the need for ongoing volunteer efforts to tackle this issue over several days. Despite the enormity of the task, the pupils demonstrated remarkable dedication and teamwork, ultimately collecting an astonishing 6,193 pieces of litter within the limited timeframe. Their efforts not only improved the environment but also instilled a sense of responsibility and pride in their community. Litter is mainly food packaging that could easily be thrown in a bin, indicating carelessness among individuals. A week at St Andrew's primary and nursery school

There are many times throughout the year that my car becomes a skip but this week I have to say the record for me returning to the litter pick routes to collect what the children had found was a first for me.

What an incredible week of making a positive impact on our community environment with the amazing pupils of St Andrew's primary and nursery school! Their dedication to litter hunting and passion for keeping our planet clean is truly inspiring. Together, we collected an impressive 12,434 pieces of litter, showing the power of teamwork and community spirit. The enthusiasm and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and I am so proud of all the hard work you put in. Let's continue to make a difference and show the world what we can achieve when we come together for a common goal. Keep up the great work St Andrew's you are all doing an incredible job in teaching the community members to help love where we live.

16th June week at Bengeworth Academy

Wow, what an incredible week at Bengeworth Academy tackling plastic pollution and all things litter! I had the privilege of delivering 13 litter workshops and two assemblies, getting students from Early Years to Year 6 involved in cleaning up their school and local areas. It was eye-opening to see litter dating back to the 1990s being discovered. The competition to collect the most litter really motivated everyone, resulting in a whopping 17,995 pieces being gathered from many community areas around the school location of Evesham. It's amazing to see young minds coming together to make a positive impact on our environment. Way to go, Bengeworth Academy! Thank you all for an amazing time, I do hope you enjoyed my playground messages too. First for me too on a litter pick workshop as we witnessed a high-flying adventure! The air ambulance swooping in really took the excitement up a notch - even the kids were buzzing! Thankfully the machine did not send our litter flying in to the air.

Sedgeberrow CofE first school clean up their school community

On 12th On 12th and 13th June 2025, I visited Sedgeberrow First School to deliver six litter workshops and a whole-school assembly focused on current plastic pollution issues. The assembly presentation aimed to provide pupils with an understanding of the impact human actions can have when collective efforts are made for environmental benefit.

Pupils from reception to year 5 participated in litter workshops, engaging in activities that included clearing school grounds and local community areas. During these sessions, pupils searched for and collected litter, uncovering items dating from 1993 to the present day, including waste that had remained in the environment for decades.

A competition was held across the workshops to determine which group could collect the most pieces of litter. Results were as follows:

• Year 3 off-site litter pick: 629 pieces, including items dating to 2006 and 2011.

• Reception: 477 pieces collected from the school grounds.

• Year 2: 471 pieces collected from the school car park area.

• Year 4: 1049 pieces collected from community areas, including items from 1993, 2000, 2013, and 2017; overall winners for vintage finds.

• Year 1: 599 pieces collected from forest school areas.

• Year 5: 480 pieces collected off-site at Glebe Meadows and Winchombe Road.

In total, 3705 pieces of litter were collected during the visit. All participating pupils contributed to the outcome of the workshops.

Welcome to the anti-litter campaign Clifton upon Teme

Clifton upon Teme has joined the Little Litter Warriors program as part of Malvern Council’s anti-litter campaign and litter promise. This was the first visit to the school, where staff are committed to teaching environmental topics to pupils. The school has received a distinction from Eco Schools for twelve consecutive years.

I led four litter workshops where 75 pupils enthusiastically collected 2,596 pieces of litter—some dating back to the 1990s—demonstrating impressive dedication to cleaning their school and community areas.

A huge thank you to the school for letting me teach the children about how litter is so damaging to the environment, I absolutely loved the visit and was impressed by your outdoor areas for the children's learning. It was a hot day and the pupils were amazing at completing the workshops with so much determination and enthusiasm.

I visited Ombersley school in June 2023. Upon my recent arrival, I observed that significant work had been completed on the school site in 2024 to improve the grounds. A new field and woodland area were acquired, and the previous site was converted into a car parking area for parents and visitors. It has improved the school grounds for the pupils who now have a great outdoor space to enjoy.

In June, I spent a day with the pupils delivering five litter workshops, resulting in the collection of 1,744 pieces of litter. Each class contributed as follows:

Rec: 64 pieces

Y1: 215 pieces

Y2: 291 pieces

Y3: 347 pieces

Y4: 879 pieces

The total amount collected was 1,744 pieces.

Vintage items found came from 1992, 2001, and 2003.

The visit was highly successful, and I enjoyed seeing the new forest school, nursery, vegetable and fruit gardens, pond, and other areas that highlight environmental education.

3rd & 4th June 2025 visit to Harvington First School

The start f June seem me deliver 6 litter workshops at Harvington First School with all year groups engaging in a litter competition to see which group could collect the most pieces of litter and hunt out the oldest piece of litter find. I have to say this visit was incredible, seeing the children engage the workshops with so much enthusiasm makes me realise how many people are passionate about their local community environment. This is my forth visit to Harvington first school and it always amazes me how much litter we pick up on each visit. June seen us collect 6188 pieces of litter from the school grounds and the community areas around the school.

Year 1 = 192 pieces of litter from the school grounds.

Year 5 = 2312 pieces of litter from the community areas

Year 4 = 947 pieces of litter from the community areas

Year 2 = 511 pieces of litter from the school grounds

Year 3 = 2226 pieces of litter from the community areas

What makes it more incredible is the vintage litter finds keep coming even after all our previous litter picks in these areas we are still finding litter dating back decades. 1990's litter was found alongside many items dated early 2000's.

The staff at this school need a shout out of recognition for their participation in environmental initiatives and their ongoing commitment to sustainability across various areas. Teachers support pupil-led eco teams throughout all age groups, and pupils deliver programs during the year that address environmental concerns such as litter management, carbon reduction, fundraising through toy swaps, reuse of pre-loved items, overall waste reduction, and plastic conservation initiatives. On 4th June, a maintenance morning was observed which involved parents, grandparents, teachers, and pupils undertaking tasks around the school grounds, including brushing playgrounds, trimming overgrowth, removing cobwebs, clearing gutters, cleaning drains, and repairing fences. The school community collaborated to maintain the quality of the school environment. Congratulations to Harvington.

Worcestershire’s dedication to sporting excellence, rural heritage, and exceptional community service has been recognised in the prestigious The King’s Birthday Honours list for 2025.

Ten outstanding individuals from the county have been acknowledged for their contributions across various sectors, celebrating their dedication and impact.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Mrs Beatrice Grant, sent her congratulations to all being recognised.

Karen Blanchfield, from Stourport, has been recognised her work founding the Little Litter Warriors, a project that provides schools with litter picking workshops, assemblies and environment classroom activities for different key stages to support children to learn about litter and the environmental damage litter has when left in our community spaces.

She said: “I’m truly honoured and humbled to be receiving this award, and to receive this recognition for something I care so much about is amazing. I’m really passionate about helping our Worcestershire communities in particular, the younger generation to learn about litter and about keeping the world we live in clean and tidy, both now and in the future. Litter picking is a simple thing that anyone and everyone can do to help protect our environment, educating this from a young age is really important and can have such a long-lasting impact which will see the next generation of adult's care for the environment."

Wow, what an incredible day with Orchard Primary School on the Wychavon anti-litter campaign! The key stage one children were absolute superstars, participating in three litter workshops and collecting an amazing 2940 pieces of litter. Their determination, enthusiasm, and love for the environment really shone through. It's so inspiring to see the next generation taking such active love, care and passion for removing litter from the community areas to help prevent wildlife from being harmed and simply making their school areas shine. Some amazing litter hunting went on too with litter dating all the way back to 2003 and even into the future in 2025! What an effort, well done to all the kids involved - you should be so proud of yourselves!

Wychavon Council :

We are offering free litter prevention sessions for schools in our district. They are run by Karen Blanchfield, from local company Little Litter Warriors, who is also a Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes Ambassador.

Pupils will be taught about why littering is anti-social and the risks to wildlife. They will then take part in a litter hunt, which is a litter pick with the added challenge of trying to find the oldest piece of litter.

After the session teachers will be provided with a lesson plan to run follow-up sessions.

More than 14000 children across Wychavon have already benefited from these sessions which are aimed at building positive behaviours, helping pupils feel part of their community and proud of the role they can play in helping to keep it clean and tidy.

Sessions are booked directly through Little Litter Warriors.

The pupils of Upton upon Severn CofE Primary and Pre School collected an impressive 5082 pieces of litter during their recent workshops �� They showed great enthusiasm for the cause and environment, remembering key points from a previous assembly. Three classes participated, with Year 5 even uncovering a £10 note, sparking excitement to search for more treasures. The children diligently combed through bushes, overgrown areas, and fences, dating back as far as 1994. Their efforts showcase their dedication to keeping their school and community clean and litter-free.

I would like to thank the pupils and staff for joining Malvern Hills District Council anti-litter campaign. The district schools are encouraged to join the little litter warriors educational visits that are commissioned by Malvern council.

It is always lovely to be welcomed back to Westlands First School as the pupils all remember the key facts of why litter picking is important. I also like to remind them its a fun activity for all the family too. I completed two litter workshops with year 3 and year 4 which seen the community areas of the Westlands in Droitwich clean up. What a fantastic response to the school litter program with little litter warriors every pupil engaged with 100% passion throughout the day asking some wonderful questions and participating 1000% on every challenge that was set. I delivered the whole school "Our Planet" assembly then spent the day with all the classes completing 3 litter workshops.

The school has defiantly had a #BigSchoolClean as Key Stage 1 took to their school grounds collecting 514 pieces of litter in total. Then we headed out and about the community areas where we completed two litter workshops collecting 1091 pieces from community spaces. In total the pupils collected 1605 pieces of litter over the three workshops proving that many hand do make light work when working as a team to clean up.

This was little litter warriors first visit to the school as part of Malvern council's anti-litter campaign promise which will see all their 42 schools offered to participate in the little litter warriors educational visits 100% funded at no cost to the school.

Many children were excited to be able to share their litter picking fun with their families that has seen a few pupils adopt their street to help keep their home community areas clean and green. Well done children you really are our #litterheroes.

On the final day of term we took part in a community litter pick! Many thanks

On the 10th of April, I had the opportunity to visit Tenbury Wells Primary School to conduct an "Our Planet" assembly and three litter workshops. The reception from the students was incredibly positive, as they actively engaged in the assembly and demonstrated enthusiasm for the information presented. Throughout the day, three litter workshops were conducted, resulting in the collection of four bags of litter from community areas. In total, we gathered 2756 pieces of litter, some of which dated back several decades, with the oldest pieces originating from the 1990s. The experience was both enlightening and impactful, as it shed light on the long-lasting effects of litter on our environment.

On 8th April 25 I welcomed Callow end CofE Primary school onto the litter warriors programme. 4 litter workshops were delivered to their 76 pupils where we litter picked their school site and community areas. Lots of thank you’s were given by members of the public congratulating the children’s efforts. Even the local shop said thank you with some treats for the pupils. 2683 pieces of litter was removed from the environment. The children hunted out litter that dated back to the 1992, 1994, 2001 and a lot more. Well done to all the pupils involved. Incredible effort. #LitterHeroes

Welcoming Suckley CE Primary on to the districts environmental campaign

Let’s give a huge shout out of thanks and a big well done to the pupils from Suckley Primary School. Today 88 pupils worked over three litter workshops to litter pick their school and community areas around #suckley collecting a huge 1843 pieces of litter.

The children worked enthusiastically and with amazing determination to hunt out the litter from the bushes and overgrown areas. They cleaned the local park, forest school, church lane, the church grounds and their school site. Litter dating back to the 1980’s, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and lots more were found. The total amount filled 5 bags of litter altogether.

I also completed the assembly ‘Out Planet’ in the beautiful setting of the church that was a first for me. You could say we really looked after gods creation today!!

The school visits are made possible because Malvern Hills District Council support the litter workshops across all their districts school. Adopt-a-Street Malvern I think you will have a few #litterheroes signing up after today.

St Peter's Primary school take on GBSC 2025

St Peter's welcome back our litter workshops for the 3rd year running

Huge shout out to the pupils of St Peter's Droitwich C of E Academy who have joined our national Keep Britain Tidy #GBSpringClean with little litter warriors. Over the last three days around 200 pupils completed 8 litter workshops clearing up the litter at the Droitwich Lido park, community areas around their school and St Peter’s church grounds. Each year group did amazing really taking on the challenges I set them and altogether they collected 4133 pieces of litter. This is my third visit to the school and it was lovely to hear the children’s stories about their litter picking efforts with their families and to see just how they have taken care of their school grounds. Beautifully litter free for such a large school, proving that litter education does work when taught in a positive way.

The vintage finds this year 2004, 2001 with the oldest find been from 1994 a whopping 31 years old.

Our school program is made possible because Wychavon council fund the workshops to all their districts schools as part of their #antilittercampaign . We are working together to ensure that we change the individual litter behaviour for our future generation of adults in our district.

I’m sure you will agree this school smashed it at litter picking this year.

17th Wyre Forest Group take on GBSC 2025

Let’s shout out our appreciation to 17th Wyre Forest Scouts #stourport mid severn sea scout group. They have participated in this year’s Keep Britain Tidy #gbspringclean. Their squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and scouts sections spent their four section nights clearing the litter from the streets of their stourport community.

I was able to join them in two nights and the enthusiasm and determination to collect every piece of litter they could find was inspiring.

Bretforton Village School pupils hunt out vintage litter treasure again.

31st March 2025 I was invited back to the school to deliver the "Our Planet" Assembly and 3 litter workshops for my 5th year running. It was lovely to be welcomed back with excited faces form the pupils who remembered my previous visits. Bretforton has to be one of the most successful school's I have worked with as they have taken on Eco Schools challenges to the absolute limit, achieving a distinction for their efforts in reducing waste, low carbon out put, eco garden success for eco system growth and their garden are full of bee friendly plants, vegetables and bug houses.

The workshops this year where once again eye opening, as a school we have cleaned the same community areas 5 times and I am always shocked at what a group of determined young pupils can hunt out of the overgrowth on their workshops. 3397 pieces of litter was collected from the days visit with vintage find from 1999 through to 2012 to the current year 2025. A huge well done to everyone involved from teachers, pupils and parent helpers we smashed the villages litter on this visit.

Wychbold First school return to the anti-litter campaign

On 26th March I welcomed back Wychbold First school to the anti-litter campaign and assisted then in participating in Keep Britain Tidy's GBSC 25. A whole school assembly was delivered and 6 litter workshops that seen the pupils collect a whooping 12 bags of litter amounting to a total of 4794 pieces collected altogether. The oldest litter finds were a mars bar packet from 1995, crisp packets from 2002, 2005 and 2000. The children were an absolute credit to their school and should be very proud of their achievements.

Norton Juxta Kempsey return to the Anti-litter Campaign

On 25th March, I returned to Norton Juxta Kempsey CE Primary School for my third visit to deliver five litter workshops to 137 pupils. The pupils actively participated, ensuring that all pieces of litter, regardless of size, were removed from the environment. They managed to collect seven bags of litter totalling 3199 pieces of litter altogether WOW.

Upton Upon Severn Primary school

Upton Upon Severn visit 24th March 2025 - GBSC

24th March 2025 visit to Upton Upon Severn primary school visit.

It was lovely to welcome another Malvern school on to the Anti-litter campaign this visit seen 160 pupils engage in the "Our Planet" assembly and 79 pupils participate in three litter workshops on the school grounds and in the community areas. The children were amazingly enthusiastic after the assembly to become the litter heroes of their school and managed to collect 3903. I do think that is worthy of a heroes title. I really enjoyed visiting a new town but also gutted to see that their town has the same litter issues as most I have been too. The children received many wonderful thank you comments from community members too. A huge well done and I look forward to revisiting in May to complete the other three workshop to the classes that did not get to go on this visit.

On Monday, we had a guest speaker: Karen Blanchfield from Little Litter Warriors. She talked

to us about the five major gyres in our world's oceans, which are huge whirlpools that trap

vast amounts of rubbish. The North Pacific gyre alone is estimated to have 3.2 million tonnes

of rubbish, covering approximately the same area as Texas.

Karen introduced us to a campaigner called Boyan Slat who designed a method of cleaning

rivers and oceans that is making an impact on these polluted waterways. To date, 20 million

kilograms of rubbish have been removed from rivers and oceans using his invention, and this

waste is then recycled properly.

Karen shared that statistically, it is more likely that adults are responsible for littering than

children, to which the adults in the room were served with judgemental looks from the

audience.

In fact, Karen's incredibly informative assembly spoke to many of our children, especially

after three classes had the opportunity to litter pick. In three hours, the children discovered

3903 pieces of rubbish in their local environment and they were incensed. Year 3 has been

writing to their local MP, Severn Trent Water and other key local figures to share how they

feel about how their environment is being cared for. We have really enjoyed supporting the

Abbey Park join GBSC 2025

On 19th & 20th March 2025, I visited Abbey Park First and Middle School for six litter workshops and two key stage assemblies. The pupils remembered me from my previous visit and retained much of the information.

It always surprises me how much the children collect, even as our community spaces get cleaner each year. They found vintage litter from 2001, 2005, and 2013 in the overgrowth. The children eagerly participated in the workshops, trying to beat previous records. I am proud of this school for its commitment to becoming greener and more eco-friendly, with pupils leading their own litter management on the school grounds.

St Mary's RC Primary hosted me for the second year to run the Little Litter Warriors program. It was heartwarming to be remembered by the pupils.

The visit was fantastic. Reception and Year 1 played the recycling game and picked litter on site. Year 2 cleaned the school perimeter, Year 3 worked behind the school in car park areas, Years 4 and 5 went to the local park, and Year 6 cleaned the community area. Together, they collected 5,326 pieces of litter, with the oldest item dating back to 1993.

The children and staff were a credit to their school and community.

12th March 2025 Welcome aboard the campaign Welland primary school.

On 12th March I welcomed Welland Primary school aboard our districts anti-litter campaign. We completed a whole school assembly that seen many hand raised to ask question after that was lovey to see such passion and interest on this topic. Our first workshop was with reception class that seen them litter pick their school grounds collecting 348 pieces of litter. The other 4 workshops seen us head out in to the local community where the children hunted out litter dating back decades and filled their buckets with an astonishing 2875 pieces collected in total.

Karen's comments: It was so exciting welcoming another Malvern district school on to the program and adding this school to the Worcestershire schools engagement list. I was welcomed with beautifully enthusiastic children that just engaged in such an positive way when cleaning up litter that others had dropped in their community. 4th March 2025 - Upton Snodsbury invite me back for their 4th whole school engagement with little litter warrios.

Let’s give a huge shout out to the pupils of Upton Snodsbury CofE First School who yesterday took part in three litter workshops clearing up their school and community areas. The pupils were an absolute credit to their school teachers removing 1058 pieces of litter from the environment. Their oldest litter piece was dated 2013 just wow. Well done children you have protected animals from being hurt by litter and made your community areas sparkle.

Karen's Comments: This is my forth visit to Upton Snodsbury first school and it's like going home as the children are always excited for their litter hunting workshops. Finding litter still that is decades old, bring items out of the environment year after year shows there is always more to be hunted out. The pupils have got it down to a tea though shocking me even more at their determination and passion to keep Britain tidy is lovely to witness.

A huge shout out to the pupils of Holy Redeemer Catholic Primary School because today they smashed it at litter picking their community spaces.

The total amount picked was 3464 pieces of litter.

The workshop finds in year 1 was litter dating back 13 years from the school’s perimeter. Year 3&4 found litter dating 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009.

Karen's comment "Well done children such a great effort all around, I have never seen so much litter come out of one community hedgerow".

Wychavon sponsor the litter picking workshop to all their district schools. Shaping future behaviours is a must ensuring these children grow to respect their community environment.

24th February 2025 - Welcome Leigh & Bransford CofE school onto the Anti-litter campaign.

Leigh & Bransford Primary School. Year 4 worked towards their environment topic with a short classroom show and tell rubbish talk followed by a big school clean litter pick. The pupils were an absolute pleasure to teach and their enthusiasm to the litter hunt ensured 1386 pieces of litter was removed from their school site. With the oldest piece dating back 8 years. The pupils showed fantastic knowledge about how they could all contribute to looking after their community and how we can all help to keep wildlife habitats safe.

A huge well done to all the children from Leigh & Bransford Primary School.

"Karen was engaging and knowledgeable about all things litter. She delivered an interesting workshop, where the children got to safely handle the litter she had found with previous school children and with her family. 13th February 2025 - Elmley Castle join our Anti-litter community campaign

On 13th February 2025 I spent the day at Elmley Castle CofE First School. The pupils learnt about the planet issues around waste in an interactive assembly presentation and four litter workshops were delivered with over 100 pupils participating.

The enthusiasm and determination to collect every piece of literature they could find was inspiring. Over 2000 pieces collected with litter dating back to 1995, 2001, 2016, 2017 and lots more.

Thank you to the teachers and pupils for making me feel at home in such a welcome school environment.

The program is commissioned by Wychavon as part of their litter promise to their communities.

International Madrif School - Erbill Iraq

Little litter warriors went international today. I was invited to talk the pupils at International Maarif Schools - Erbil school in Iraq about littering. Pupils engaged in the understanding of why litter/waste is endangering our planet. What as community leaders we can do to help clean it up and how they can encourage others to help #savetheplanet too. The pupils asked some fantastic questions and are planning a presentation project in their school to highlight what they have learnt. I asked about their countries waste management systems to learn that there is no system in place there, their rivers/communities are full of litter/waste.

I recommended that they research their countries facilities, right letters to powerful partners that could help them with waste management. I cannot wait to hear of their progress in inspiring others to care and how they get on with some support to help them clean up.

Let’s give a huge shout out to the pupils at Bredon Hancocks CE First school where today 140 pupils completed 4 litter workshops in their community. Over 2000 pieces of litter was collected all together with litter dating back to 1920’s class bottle, 2001 beer can, 2009 sweet wrapper, 2016 crisp packet and 2017 food wrap right up to the present time.

The children were an absolute pleasure to teach and a credit to their school. Their determination and enthusiasm towards the subject of protecting our community spaces showed especially litter picking in the cold start of the February day. Well done to all the pupils today. Visit from Little Litter Warriors (February 2025)

Karen from Little Litter Warriors came to school to work with ALL the pupils. Together the reception and KS1 children worked to ensure our school grounds were litter-free. Year 3 and 4 children took a chilly, foggy walk up to Bredon's playing fields, where they found a staggering 1200 pieces of litter along the footpaths and around the hedgerows. Year 5 then visited the churchyard to litter pick, and found a glass bottle which was around 107 years old! Karen showed us all kinds of vintage litter and talked to us about how long different items take to biodegrade in our environment.

Hindip First school in Droitwich - this year was the schools first year joining in the districts anti-litter campaign with the Wychavon initiative. We started their day with the "Our Planet" assembly presentation and after each class took part in the litter workshops. Each workshop has a show and tell story of plastic pollution with plastic waste from our beaches and coastline here in the UK been shown. The children also see littered waste from inland community areas where the children can see a fundamental difference in each piece of litter. Most of the litter shown in the show and tell has remained in the environment for decades this highlighting the materials durability teaching the pupils about sustainably materials through looking at evidence from beach and inland litter picks.

Bengeworth Academy Activity week - June 24

I am blessed once again to attend Bengeworth Academy in Evesham to support their Eco activity week. This was my forth year visiting the academy and each time all pupils get involved over the weeks visit. It is a very busy time as each year group has 90 pupils and need 15 workshops to allow every pupil in be involved. I must say that I receive a warm welcome every year from the pupils and I'm always blown away how they remember the course and engage with 100% enthusiasm. The Wychavon team believe that the program instills in individuals a passion to look after their local community environment and always dispose of their litter in a bin. When I first visited these community areas we were collecting dozens of bags of litter from community areas and on this visit it was great to witness less litter. This showing that the work delivered and messages instilled means that these pupils have taken their teaching home and really are looking atter their community areas and school.

St Wulstan's Primary school - July 2024

I had a great visit to St Wulstan's primary school in Stourport on Severn in July, The school were studying plastic pollution and learning through creation how stewards play a role in our everyday life and how we should all look after our world. I delivered the assembly to the whole school and then each class went out in to the community to litter pick. The pupils were a fantastic credit to their school and cleared up over 10 bags of litter from the school community areas.

School facebook post wrote: Reception, KS1, Year 3 and Year 4 took part in litter picking with Mrs Blanchfield and her ‘Little Litter Warriors’ project. As a school, we have been taking part in a number of Eco Challenges with the Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership to promote wellbeing, healthy living and looking after our planet. We were so impressed the the children’s enthusiasm and effort to clean the streets around our school. In total, we collected 5 bags of litter with some of the litter dating back to the 90s and early 00s. The children are passionate about making a change and we will continue to promote such an important message in school and with our families.

15th May 2024 - Visit to Pinvin First school reception class

Pinvin CofE First school return each year to the program to instill the message to their pupils looking after the environment is important. They invite me each year to deliver the recycling workshop that not only teaches the children about using the correct bin for their rubbish but also teaches the little ones how to use the litter picker. This fun engaging game see them clear up all t he recycling on their playground and then we go on a litter hunt around the school premises where this year the pupils cleaned up two bags of litter. The reception class spent 90 minutes on this activity and shown incredible determination to hunt out as many pieces of litter they could find.

May 24, I had the pleasure of joining the 3rd Droitwich Cubs Pack for a litter pick in their scouts huts community in Droitwich. It was truly inspiring to see the determination and enthusiasm of the cubs as they filled their bags in just 10 minutes. Working together throughout the hour, we were able to make a significant impact on the cleanliness of the area. The children's commitment to this activity was admirable, and I thoroughly enjoyed our time together. Let's Welcome St Andrew's CE Primary School in Evesham on to our environmental campaign.

Last week, St Andrews CofE School in #evesham #hampton joined the anti-litter campaign with Little litter warriors. A total of 12 litter workshops were conducted, involving over 300 pupils, resulting in the collection of 22 bags of litter. This amounted to more than 4500 pieces of litter removed from the school and community areas. The children received recognition and gratitude from the community, including a shout-out on social media platforms. The engagement and passion displayed by the children towards preserving the wildlife in the community spaces was truly commendable. The success of this initiative demonstrates the positive impact of educating and involving young minds in keeping their environment clean. Their oldest find was a milk bottle dating 1960's with many pieces of litter dating back decades. Huge well done St Andrew's you really did fly the Keep Britain Tidy flag.

The program is 100% funded by Wychavon council as part of their #antilittercampaign. The program is a long term strategy to secure an education to our youth in the communities of #droitwichspa #evesham & #perhore in a hope to create adults who care environmentally and make their individual decisions around waste count.

11th Wyre forest Beavers Harkaway colony litter picked Springfield park in #kidderminster. Their care, love and sheer determination to collect every piece they could see was incredible. They were determined to reach as many pieces as possible from the stream using the long picker and managed to collect four bags of rubbish, a shopping basket, toy pram and much more. Plastic pollution and litter are closely related, highlighting the need for education.

Plastic pollution and litter are significant environmental challenges that require education and awareness to address. Recently, I had the opportunity to revisit Droitwich High School to present the litter program to the new year 8 students. During two "Our Planet" assemblies, I emphasized the extent of plastic pollution in our oceans and the widespread littering of our beaches. By raising awareness of these issues, we can inspire individuals to take action in reducing plastic waste and properly disposing of litter. It is crucial to educate students and communities on the impact of plastic pollution and the importance of preserving our natural environment for future generations.

The Our Planet assembly showcases the positive impact of the ocean clean-up project, aiming to inspire students with a proactive approach to environmental conservation. The assembly introduces them to Boyan Slat, the founder of the project, who developed the idea as a student. In addition, litter workshops are designed to be engaging and impactful, emphasizing the importance of adopting a reuse and sustainable lifestyle. By focusing on the success of the clean-up project and the potential impact of individual actions, students are encouraged to recognize the significance of their role in preserving the planet. This approach aims to instill a sense of empowerment and responsibility in the younger generation.

Karen would like to express gratitude to Wychavon Council for their alignment with our shared long-term strategy to combat litter in the district's communities. By working together, we hope to promote a reusable society and instill a sense of responsibility in the next generation to care for their community spaces and respect the local wildlife. This collaboration will contribute to creating cleaner and more sustainable environments for all residents. They both contribute to harmful impacts on ecosystems and wildlife, therefore i t's important to bring current and relevant information to educational programs, especially when it comes to teaching children about environmental issues such as littering. Seeing and physically engaging with the topic can enhance learning experiences for young students. I want to extend my gratitude to Richard from Paws on Plastic in West Cornwall, who generously provided beach litter for our educational program. Sorting through the litter today was an eye-opening experience, and I'm excited to display it for high school students tomorrow. Hanbury First School welcomed me back on 16th April 24 to conduct litter workshops for their pupils, focusing on educating them about the current environmental issues and empowering them to take action within their community. WOW let’s give a huge shout out to the Beavers from 15th Wyre Forest Scouts Habberley Scout Group. Last night the beavers went on a litter hunt to find all the hidden litter in the bushes and recreational areas by their scout hut on Truno Drive #kidderminster. They were determined to fill their buckets and did just that filling three bags of litter in 40 minutes. The oldest litter find was a coke bottle with a sell by date of May 2005 making this bottle 19 years of being left in their local community area. Well done to all the beavers and leaders you did an amazing job.

Returning to Holy Redeemer school was such a fantastic experience! The children were so passionate and knowledgeable about environmental issues and the impact of litter. It's amazing to see the school's dedication to raising awareness about climate change, with students actively participating by turning off lights and organizing clothes sales to reduce waste. The litter workshops were a huge success, with the children filling over 45 buckets of litter from the school and community, which equated to collecting 8 bags of rubbish! It's truly inspiring to see the next generation taking action to make a positive impact on our planet. We're on the right track as a district, but there's still so much potential to make a positive impact on our environment. Let's keep pushing for change together in our school community and work towards implementing more sustainable practices in Wychavon schools. We can do this!

Little litter warriors receives a Prime Ministers award

I was absolutely delighted to be awarded by the Prime Minister in March 24 for a Points Of Light award.

Little Litter Warriors 2294 award winner.

Karen Blanchfield from Worcestershire, set up her ‘Little Litter Warriors’ programme in 2020 to educate and engage school children across the local area about litter and looking after community spaces.

Karen has been a community litter picker since 2018 and is an Ambassador for ‘Keep Britain Tidy’. Backed with funding from her council, Karen works closely with schools, local authorities and youth groups to deliver the programme with a hands-on approach to highlight the issue of litter pollution in a fun and engaging way.

Through the initiative, Karen provides all schools and community groups in the area with an educational litter programme and litter pick workshops that have engaged over 18,000 children in regular litter-picking activities over the last three years.

The award for Karen coincides with the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ annual campaign which runs from 15 to 31 March, bringing together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to come together and help make a difference to the environment.

Congratulating Karen on her award, Nigel Huddleston, Karen’s local MP for Mid Worcestershire, said:

21st Wyre Forest Squirrels join The Great British Spring Clean Campaign

Look at these little litter warriors from 21st Wyre Forest squirrels scouts who went out and about litter picking St Georges park in Kidderminster. A huge thank you to you all for taking part in our nations Great British Spring Clean campaign you really are the stars of your community. Wyre forest scout leaders across Bewdley, Kidderminster and Stourport on Severn are taking part in a litter pick until 31st March to support the GBSC.

The squirrel from Wyre Forest 21 are definitely leading the way to become eco ambassadors of their group, look at their little faces they have had so much fun hunting out litter from the park and filling up a massive bag of waste. Squirrels are from 4 years old to 6 years old and the pride of us all in scouting of the effort and success of this pick is just glowing. Well done children and thank you leaders your support means the world to us all.

St Mary's Catholic Primary School Evesham join the Anti-litter campaign

A huge welcome aboard the Anti-litter Campaign St Mary's

We only went and found Ant & Dec lol - a 2002 crisp packet

What a wonderful visit I had on 14th & 15th March engaging the pupils at St Mary's RC Primary school in Evesham. The children learnt through the "Our Planet" assembly all about plastic pollution in our Oceans and the fantastic work being carried out by the Ocean Clean up group. The they al completed a litter workshop around their school and the community of Evesham.
The children litter picked a massive 16 bags of litter from Evesham town streets and the park area finding litter that dated back decades. We even found Ant & Dec on a crisp packet dating back to 2002, but their oldest litter find was from 1996 making their oldest find 28 years old.

I am always inspired by the pupils enthusiasm to clean up every piece of litter they can find large or small and the pupils of St Mary's really did get behind this challenge collecting over 500 pieces per litter workshop in the community areas.

A huge thank you and well done to the children and staff what a fabulous week we had out and about in the great outdoors taking part in the Great British Spring Clean.

Abbey Park Middle School join the campaign for their 2nd year

Welcome back to the campaign Abbey Park Middle School

It was lovely to return to Abbey Park Middle school to take their year groups out litter picking as part of the Big School Clean and The Great British Spring Clean campaign. Over 180 pupils learnt about the impact litter has on the environment and how they can become their own litter heroes of their communities. We did 2 whole school assemblies and 7 litter workshops collecting a massive 14 litter filled bags from their local community areas. Some of the litter finds was a marathon wrapper. The Marathon Bar was officially discontinued in the year 1981 by Mars but was brought back in 1990's as a snickers bar. Alongside this litter the pupils also found crisps packets from 1992, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2002 and a lot more.

The pupils at Abbey Park middle school litter picked community areas, Abbey Park in Pershore and their school grounds. The children did an amazing job and was determined to pick up every item of litter they could see. They way the children engage with this program really makes me proud but also inspired to keep going in my teaching to ensure we have a better cleaner community for them in the future.

Joining Keep Britain Tidy at the Houses Of Parliment

The Great British Spring Clean 15 - 31 March 2024

This year I had the pleasure again to join Keep Britain Tidy and some of our amazing fellow litter heroes ambassadors to help promote The Great British Spring Clean 2024 to government and KBT sponsors who fund this wonderful campaign.

It was great to hear from Mp's and Minister Robbie Moore who joined the #GBSpringClean parliamentary launch “Community action is incredibly important in the fight against litter, underlining the significance of events such as the #GBSpringClean. For many years we have been proud to support the campaign…”

I also got the chance to meet world champions, Alexander Winship, Jonathan Winship and Sarah Parry, who cleaned up at the first ever Litter Picking World Cup with a UK team bagging 83kg of rubbish in just 45 minutes in Japan. They competed under the team name The North Will Rise Again, beat 20 countries in the Spogomi World Cup, held in Tokyo's bustling Shibuya district.

I always love to hear exactly what our MP's are doing to support our environment where waste, plastic pollution and litter pollution is concerned as I have many friends, schools, scout & girl guide groups and community groups cleaning up our community litter in many towns in Worcestershire. I am inspired with peace knowing that we are not alone in cleaning up and the bigger picture is shouting out too. The circular movement of waste is on it's way and in some areas already started with the bottle return schemes.

Wychbold First School Join the anti-litter campaign

I would like to officially welcome Wychbold first school on to our districts anti-litter campaign, in February 2024, I spent two days at the school teaching the pupils about plastic pollution in our oceans and the local community. 195 pupils engaged in a litter pick activity within their school and local community areas. The children were an absolute pleasure to engage with as their determination to clean up every little piece of litter was clear to see. The children asked if they could litter pick all day as they enjoyed looking after the local environment and loved protecting the wildlife from bring harmed by littered waste. The pupils found litter dating back to the 1990's and cleaned up all the bushes, streets and parkland close to their school. The children have expressed a interest in adopting their street so they can continue to help keep Droitwich spa clean and litter free. All the children received their certificate and I cannot wait to hear all about their involvement in the Great British Spring Clean campaign 2024 with their families. The pupils also helped me promote our national Keep Britain Tidy campaign by litter picking on the ITV central news on Friday 15th March 2024 whist I was being interviewed. A huge thank you to the school staff, pupils and parents for their continued enthusiasm to help Keep Droitwich community Tidy and litter free.

Wychavon District Schools smashing the anti-litter campaign fight

More than 10,000 children have now joined the fight against litter thanks to an education programme funded by Wychavon.

Pupils at St Peter’s C of E Academy Droitwich helped the Little Litter Warriors scheme reach the milestone after 450 of them took part in specialist workshops.

Children spent three days picking the streets around the St Peter’s Church Lane school as well as in Lido Park. Pupils filled more than 160 buckets with rubbish plucked from roads, paths and hedges, with the oldest dating back to the 1990s.A group of children in a circle with litter pickers cheering

Little Litter Warriors was created by Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes Ambassador Karen Blanchfield, as a way of raising awareness of the impact of littering and inspiring young people and spread the anti-litter message.

The scheme launched in March 2021 after Wychavon agreed to fund free sessions for all schools as part of its anti-littering campaign. The sessions have proved so popular, Wychavon has now extended the funding for another two years.

As well as taking part in a litter pick, with the extra challenge of seeing who can hunt out the oldest piece of litter, schools are provided with resources to continue educating children about littering after the session. They are also encouraged to join Wychavon’s Adopt a Street volunteer litter picking programme to support pupils to continue to help clean up their community.

The scheme has achieved major recognition after winning a Gold International Green Apple Environment Award 2023 in the education and training sector.

Karen Blanchfield, founder of Little Litter Warriors, said: “I go out daily litter picking the same areas month on month collecting the same amount of littered waste, showing that there is a need for change in our future behaviours.

“The program was set up in order to inspire our children to grow up respecting the environment and becoming the new generation of adults to care. The children are taught through a fun and engaging workshop ensuring they think about the impact of their litter decision. I have returned to many schools where the pupils have told me of their litter picks with their families, how they have adopted their street and even shaped changes within their school. These children inspire me to keep teaching these sessions year on year and having Wychavon council support my educational litter program ensures we can keep achieving these future goals together.”

Cllr Emma Stokes, Executive Board Member for Resident and Customer Service on Wychavon District Council, said: “I’m delighted our anti-litter message has now reached more than 10,000 young minds and by extending the funding for this scheme we plan to reach many more. “Through Little Litter Warriors we are not only helping to inspire good behaviours in our young people we hope they will take with them into adult life, but we also hope they will take what they learn back to the adults in their lives and have a positive impact on their behaviour as well.”

Ombersley 3rd Droiwich Brownie pack spent time with me in October 2023 to complete the litter workshop. We choose to help out our local community doctors by clearing up the litter in their car park. At a close glance the car park looked quite clean but once again the children proved us all wrong collecting buckets full of litter from the bushes. Many face masks and discarded medical packaging was found alongside normal food on the go packaging litter.

This is my second visit to St Peter's in Droitwich and I am delighted to see how my workshops have inspired many pupils and teachers to continue the impactful lesson on litter and litter management. The school has ensured the children continue to litter pick the school grounds regularly and allowed the children to borrow litter picking equipment throughout the year so they can continue looking after their community with their families.

This year we concentrated on the local community areas of the lido park, streets to the school and school areas, car park, play grounds etc. 450 pupils participated through year group litter pick workshops collecting huge amounts of community litter. The great this about litter picking in the autumn months is that the bushes are not growing and we can really hunt out litter that has remained in the environment for a long time. The pupils found over 160 buckets full of litter finding litter dating back to 1998, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011 right up to 2023.

The pupils were delighted to have me return to complete more litter picking activities and showing them my new waste collected from the beaches in Cornwall, Ireland and Tenerife. The waste shows broken up pieces of plastics, litter and fishing nets and gives the children a glimpse of micro plastic waste. The litter pick I completed in August in Cornwall also show them my latest crisp packet find from 1971.

18th October 2023 Bredon Hancock's endowed first schoool

On 18th & 19th October 2023 I spent two days delivering the second visit sessions to the pupils from Bredon Hancocks first school. The pupils have taken part in 5 litter workshops in the two day visit collecting 6 bags of litter from their community areas. The visit started with the Our planet assembly followed by 5 litter workshops that engage the pupils in understanding the impact waste has on the planet, local environment and wildlife. The children completed all their rubbish tasks collecting litter from 2010 to the current day.

The pupils were shown community litter and beach litter to understand the impact of waste when it reaches the ocean and how long our litter can last in the environment once littered. The pupils are challenged through a fun and exciting workshop to litter pick in a different way that engages the children to want to grab every piece large or small. This program has proved a huge success with Wychavon schools and has seen children adopt their street with the councils initiative ensuring the litter message reach their families and community areas.

Well done Reception class, year 1, year 2, year 3, year 4 and year 5. Incredible job all round.

A very warm welcome aboard St Richard's CE First School Sept 2023

This week 268 pupils from St Richard’s CE first school in Evesham completed 10 litter workshops with little litter warriors educational program as part of Wychavon’s anti litter campaign.

Pupils filled 171 buckets amounting to 23 bags filled with community litter that included, 620 Cigarette butts, 129 Beer cans, 46 Drinks pop cans, 73 crisp packets, over 200 sweet wrapper, 37 Vapes 37 & 42 vape packaging, 56 Fast food packaging items (McDonalds, Costa etc), 7 facemasks and lots more. The oldest piece of litter was dated 1980’s (Burton’s potato puffs crisps) over 40 years old, many items were also from 1990’s to 2023.

The litter program is funded by the Wychavon council as part of their anti -litter campaign working throughout their districts schools and community groups to ensure children are taught the importance of their individual litter decisions.

It is lovely to welcome another Wychavon school on the little litter warriors program. This week St Richard’s pupils have been brilliant their enthusiasm and determination to clean up and hunt out the hidden litter has been inspirational. Their litter finds have dated back decades and the shear amount collected shows the daily fight we have around litter. The program also highlights the effect each litter materials has on the local wildlife when left in the environment and how this litter can reach our waterways. All week pupils have returned to school after completing the workshops expressing how they had been out litter picking with their family, what they had found and that they had filled another bag. You can imagine the delight I felt hearing this but this also shows how impactful and important this program is. We are shaping the next generation of adults to care more. A massive thank you has to be given to the pupils & staff for their incredible achievements this week.

Claines Primary school return to our litter campaign and smash it once again

The pupils have only gone and found the oldest crisp packet so far with Wychavon's initiative.

Massive shout out for the children of Claines Primary school who in June 23 took part in our litter prevention workshops. The children of year 4 litter picked their community areas collecting buckets full of litter. Not only that they really did deliver on my challenge of hunting out the litter you can't see, finding a 1970's crisp packet, 1986 drinks can and 15 buckets of litter. Go Kids

I also challenge them to pick up every small piece of litter we passed and they collected an estimate of 300 small pieces that included cigarette butts, plastic pieces, bottle tops, straws and more, preventing these from reaching our local waterways.

Flyford Flavell clean up once again

This June I spent two days with the pupils from Flyford Flavell

In June I visited Flyford Flavell Primary School to deliver the 'Our Planet' assembly and the litter workshops to all year groups. Pupils learnt the importance of using a bin, recycling and how packaging materials effect the environment and wildlife when litter is left.

The pupils were an absolute credit to their school engaging enthusiastically throughout the event determined to pick up every piece they could find. I challenged the pupils this time to pick up the litter they could see, hunt out litter that's hiding in the bushes/overgrown areas and to pick up as many small pieces as they could. The pupils collected 8 bags of litter and over 1500 small pieces preventing these plastics/cigarettes from entering the communities water courses. Well done to everyone involved.

Massive shout out to the children of Wyre Forest Scouts, Girlguiding in Severn & Teme. & Girlguiding Kidderminster who in May & June collected a massive 58 bags of litter from the community areas of #stourportt #kidderminster #bewdley. Droitwich Spa High School pupils make the news

Droitwich Spa High School join in our litter campaign

I spent my time in June 23 at Droitwich Spa High School and Sixth Form Centre delivering 'Our Planet assemblies to years 8, 9 & 10 then taking year 8 out and about litter hunting. Over 800 pupils attended the assemblies with 262 year 8 pupils spending the weeks afternoons out and about litter picking their community. The pupils have engaged enthusiastically with the litter workshops collecting an amazing 21 bags of litter. The oldest piece of litter found is a 1900 ink well bottle, 1970's bottle top, 1980's Marathon wrapper, crisp packets from the 1990's and so much more. I have really enjoying my week at the school and I have been made so welcome by all.

Bretforton Village School invite me back for the third year running - May 23

26th May 23 I visited Bretforton First School to deliver three workshops out in community areas of Bretforton. It was really lovely to return to see the pupils again an hear just how much litter picking they have done in their #community since my last visit.

I was invited to their eco school assembly where I have to say a huge thank you. Not only did I see some incredible growth in this schools eco commitments, it was clear to see their eco lead teacher Jo really does show so much passion to the cause.

I was really overwhelmed especially at the year 6 eco message they decided to show through a film and believe me it was impactful. I welled up.

Litter collected was 4 bags from the community and litter dating back to 1997 was once again hunted by the pupils from bushes and hedgerows in the third litter pick workshop.

I am absolutley delighted to learn that the school has just been awarded their 7th Green Flag award with a distinction too. huge well done the the pupils and staff at the school.

Wow What a week Bengeworth Academy

Wow what a week not just any week! An ECO week. Thanks to Bengeworth CE Academy for inviting me in to deliver 15 litter workshops to over 500 pupils. The week started with the reception year on Monday that seen 90 beautiful litter ones enthused to clean up every drop of litter they could find on their school grounds. I then headed to other years over the next 4 day delivering the workshops to year 3,4 & 5 that seen them adventure into their community areas and streets clearing litter that amounted to 25 bags in total. Year 2, 1 and reception cleared their school grounds of 4 bags of litter also learing about how waste materials work in Wychavon bins regards to what is recycled, composted and general wasted in our district.

A huge week in a very large school seen children dress green, go electric free, cycled or walked to school, looked after their environment and more. Thank you to all the staff and pupils for making me so welcome and delivering very passionate impactful program on sustainability. YOU ALL ROCK

12th Kidderminster Brownies

Wow lets give a huge shout out to the 12th Kidderminster Brownies from Spennells who spent their evening on a litter workshop with me tonight. The Brownies litter picked around the community of Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School & #tescoexpress hunting out litter from 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012 up to the current year filling an amazing 5 bags of litter. Yes that's correct the Walkers crisp packet is 20 years old. The Brownies were incredibly determined to hunt out as much litter as they could but unfortunately time passed too quick especially when you are having this much fun. They expressed their eagerness to carry on litter picking with their families that was so nice to hear.

I would also like to praise the local Tesco Express shop owners who have put many bins around their site to help reduce the litter dropped. This was lovely to see.

8th Wyre forest kick out litter in their community

A huge shout out to 8th Wyre Forest (St John's) scout group who have litter picked areas in our Kidderminster BID project as part of the #bighelpout23 today.

Their route was Habberley playing fields, past the police station, down Mill Street, under the underpass on to Matalan, down into town past McDonald's, up past Gregg on to Church Road on to the ring round, past the St Mary's Ringway and back up Mill Street.

I'm sure you will all congratulate our young people with their amazing efforts in keeping our community areas litter free.

#kingcharlescoronation message was to care for the environment and I'm sure you will agree our King would be very proud of our Wyre Forest Scouts and Girlguiding in Severn & Teme. community engagement today.

Wow what a litter pick tonight, vintage litter galore found by this amazing team from 3rd Areley Kings Girlguiding at Burlish Top Nature reserve. A total of 10 bags have been collected where litter was hunted out of the wooded areas dating back to 1994, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009 and much more to the current date. A saw, washing line, spade and even part of a VHS machine too. Thanks to everyone involved you all did amazing. Also a massive thank you to Helen for booking me once more to take the girl guides out into the community. April 23 seen me visit 192nd St Georges Own Scout Group to deliver the Little Litter Warriors litter workshop. Great British Spring Clean 2023

Kidderminster had a spring clean today from our wonderful volunteer team. The Comberton underpass was mostly litter free so we made our way in to town clearing roads and bushes where possible. We were stopped in our tracks when we reached Morrisons supermarket due to the amount of litter in the bushes. 5 of us spent a good 40 minutes clearing hedgerows, the river bank of the #riverstour and their car park area. Chris found a bag of security tags, 9 litter filled bags were collected from the morning picks and over 50 used cable ties picked up that had clearly been used for their signage and the dumped on the ground when they change over their seasonal signs.

Today I did something that I have never done before, I asked to speak to the manager to show him the efforts of our volunteers and handed him the rubbish to dispose of. I will say that he was lovely about it and thanked us for our efforts. I asked him if he could provide a bin in the area that we had cleared up in a hope that we see less litter next month and he said he would move one.

Droitwich Cub Scouts clean up their community

I visited the 3rd Droitwich Scout group to take their cub pack litter hunting in the dark. What can I say this style of litter picking definately was fun and not a challenge at all with these cubs. Equipped with their torches we ventured around the #droitwich community, the cubs were hunting out some fantasic litter finds. One crisp packet dated 2004 but the oldest was early 1990's. The cubs filled their buckets needing to empty them half way round as they were full of litter. I would like to thank the 3rd Droitwich cub pack for their litter picking efforts and for making this litter pick so much fun. Hopefully I can return again soom. 3 full bags collected toward the communities #GreatBritishSpringClean campaign.

Promoting the Litter Heroes Ambassadors program for Keep Britian Tidy

I was invited to represent the #LitterHeroes program for Keep Britain Tidy at the volunteer network meeting and celebration event from #watersidecare. The event was attended by many volunteers from across the #westmidlands who make a difference by clearing our waterways to help improve biodiversity. The whole day was absolutley inspirational and to see the incredible work that has been carried out was just brilliant. Being part of the #litterheroes Ambassador program I really do get to meet the real heroes of our communities. Thank you to everyone involved today and I look forward to meeting up with you all soon to do some amazing work with you. As a Keep Britian Tidy Litter Heroes Ambassador I am very blessed to be invited by MP Kim Leadbeater to the Houses of Parliment for the launch of the 2023 Great British Spring Clean. 20 Ambassaors from across the nation joined MP's and Keep Britian Tidy sponsors to help promote the biggest clean up campaign seen each year here in Britain. We heard from many about the challenges we all face nationally on a daily basis and how we as a nation are moving forward to reduce litter and waste through new inititives in 2025 such as the deposit return scheme.

Personally I have days when I am continuously like many litter picking the same areas in my community and the problem seems to be rising not falling. However being invited to attend these events leaves me encouraged to keep going. The biggest change we must see is in education where we must engage the next generation of adults to do better than the current generation is doing. Education needs to grow with subjects of sustainabilty being at the heart of all studies and I will continue to support teachers where possible to implement these changes in their schools.

It was lovely to meet up with some of the most amazing like minded ambassadors flying the litter flags in their communities in order for us all to life in healthier communities. Hearing the amazing litter clean up efforts from seas, beaches, rivers, canals, cities and countryside towns was a true inspriation.

Keep Britain Tidy Network Awards 2023

Wychavon council run their anti-litter campaign with a team of amazing enforcement officers and I'm proud to be able to work alongside them on this campaign with the children's educational litter engangment program. This year we were finalists in the Keep Britain Tidy network awards under the litter heroes award. Although we were not the overall winners in this category we were one of the three finalists in Britian. As you can imagine we are hugley proud of this achievement and we will not stop in our aim to reduce litter in the community of Wychavon. I do have to say though my biggest award comes from the children that I teach especially when they are so enthusiasic to carry on litter picking after enganging in one of the litter workshops. We will carry on the litter fight to ensure a healthier planet for us all.

SwanLane First School in Evesham clean their community 2nd year in a row.

Swan Lane First School pupils have spent the week of 13th February 2023 completing 11 litter workshops throughout the community of #Evesham including workshops with the younger years completing #bigschoolclean. Over 420 pupils litter picked 32 bags of litter throughout this week helping to care for their world.

Many litter items were found from the 1990's with the oldest litter find was a Tango Can from 1994 found by year 5 pupils.

Thank you to the pupils and teachers for helping to keep their school community areas litter free. A huge well done to all the children.

St Peter's CofE Academy join's Wychavon's anti-litter campaign

Wow what a way to kick off 2023. Little Litter Warriors was invited to deliver the litter educational workshops and classroom work at St Peter's Droitwich C of E Academy. All 442 pupils litter picked their school & community areas, took part in some litter classroom work, wrote letters and upcycled recycling boxes to use around their school. I had a wonderful week at St Peter's loving the enthusiasum the pupils shown towards looking after their community environment especially where litter was concerned.

The pupils litter picked buckets full of litter and found litter dating back to 1986. A huge thank you to all the pupils and teachers for their warm welcome. I had a great time at your school.

Lets celebrate the high school pupils community clean ups efforts with a write up from the litter impact educational day at Archbishop iisley RC high school.

On Tuesday 15th November the school engaged in a 'save the planet' day learning what the impact of waste and litter is having on our environment. The weather as you experienced was against us very wet, so we adapted around the forecast and managed to complete all four litter workshops. The morning started with the whole of year 7 attending ‘Our Planet’ assembly about 200 pupils, The first litter workshop was taken around their church car park where litter dating back 13 years was found. This area has also experience fly-tipping with pupils expressing their shock at such a sight. The second and third workshops seen the pupils clear up their school grounds finding an old pull ring tab drinks can that went out of production in 1989. The fourth litter workshop went out into the community of Acocks Green with three police constables from Sheldon WMP attending. The constables explained to the pupils that littering is an offence and children from the age of 10 years can receive a fix penalty fine of £100. The community litter pick shocked them the most due to the amount of litter available to clear up but the pupils would need more than an hour to clean up all the litter witnessed. In one day the school pupils filled 38 bags of litter learning that the community waste is mostly food on the go purchases where using a bin would have prevented such an expensive clean up task.

Karen Blanchfield Keep Britain Tidy Litter heroes ambassador who created the little litter warriors educational program said, “It was great to see how engaged the high school pupils were and their determination to pick up as much litter as possible was inspirational, Acocks Green village is badly litter and there is evidence of fly-tipping on many private business car parks being added to everyday by local businesses. This was a shame for the children to see this adult behaviour but an important message for them to witness in our future generation of adults. The pupils and teachers were expressing how they need to do more after seeing what we as litter picker witness daily. I can actually say the need for change in human behaviours was taught with teachers expressing how they would like to do more about looking after their community within their enrichment program.

The teachers asked the pupils if they started a litter picking club would they join up and help to introduce a litter management routine in their school with 90% of them throwing up their arms to join in. The day seen over 110 pupils join in the litter pick workshop with pupils finding litter dating back to 1985, 1989, 2006, 2012 and many items dating 2 years.

Pictures are of the pupils after the fourth litter workshop and the fly-tipped area just outside their school ground in the off Shirley road car park area, showing how the local businesses here use this fly-tipped area as means of disposing of their trade waste.

Birmingham city council supported the program providing bin bags from ‘love my street’ initiative and providing the waste disposal collection of the litter filled bags. Without the council support we could not have disposed of such a large amount of community waste.

High School Engagement launch

High School engagement program launched for Nov 22

I am delighted to annouce the litter impact program for high school engagement and this month we see two high schools supporting the program. It's vital that I can take my program to a whole new age group so that we can see a faster action towards building litter awareness. If you have joined any part of my program before you will know that I clean up many areas of my community daily and litter is repetative and an ongoing issue created by our past gernerations stigma around rubbish. I can clean up one day and the next day litter returns and with this in mind the only way I see improvement around litter is to teach the next generation of adults to respect where their waste may end up if littered and that their individual litter choices can make a huge difference.

The litter impact program has been designed to adapt to the schools needs and timetable, many high schools work on a two week rotation timetable therefore, The litter picks are adapted to suite individual school needs and 100% outdoors in the community and school grounds.

I am calling for more high school engagement in 2022 to really drive the anti-litter campaign forward. The Great British Spring Clean take place 17th March - 2nd April. For schools wanting to join the Big School Clean all the equipment is provided with risk assessments to help save teachers time. Places are limited so booking is essential to save disappointment as many schools engage in this period.

Sytchampton School joins Districts Anti-litter campaign

October 2022 Sytchampton Village School whole school engagement.

I had the pleasure to visit the pupils and teachers at Sytchampton Village school to complete the little litter warriors educational day. The day started with the whole school assembly where the children learnt about the impact litter has on the ocean and the wildlife. We then completed throughout the day three litter workshops were the children learnt just how important keeping our local communities litter free can help to save the planet too.

Over 90 school pupils participated in the litter activities and helped to litter pick their school grounds and community areas. The pupil were a credit to their school showing incredible enthusiasum to carry on litter picking with their families. The school as also signed up to adopt their street with Wychavon councils initiative that will see the schools committment in continuing to use the equiptment to inspire the next generation of adults to enjoy helping to keep their community clean and tidy. Well done to everyone involved I had a lovely day with you all.

October 2022 Beavers Spooky Picks

Wyre Forest 18th Areley Kings Beavers colony

Spooky picks involved a group of excited beavers from 18th Wyre Forest Scouts Areley Kings group, a burlish top nature reserve and enough equiptment to scare the litter witches away. 18 wonderful little beavers worked their scouting magic to clear the area of litter colllecting 8 bags of litter and a rusty old bike. Well done Beavers you are my litter warriors once more.

2022 BBCHW Make A Difference Commendation Enviromental Award

22nd September 2022 BBC Hereford and Worcester Make A Difference Awards

Delighted to become one of four finalists with BBC Hereford and Worcester 2022 Make A Difference award for the Hartlebury Common Lower Heathland Project. Hartlebury Common is Worcestershire County SSSI nature reserve that had fallen to fly-tipping over the years. In 2019 I met the Worcestershire County Council countyside Rangers who requested help to clear up a large area of the lower heathland area. I cannot express or forget that first time I visted the site, witnessing the size of the fly-tipped area left me speachless but in December of 2021 the community groups volunters from The Pickup Artists, Hartlebury Common local group and Worcestershire County council celebrated the clean up completion of the heavily fly-tipped area. The project is still live and we continue to visit the nature reserve every month for maintainance litter picks, there is unfortunaltly more lightly fly-tipped areas accross the lower heathland acreage that still need to be tackled. This project is the largest project I ever help organised but it is definaltly made alot easier having a team of amazing volunteers working alongside such a great and important project with Worcestershre County Council. Thank you to everyone involved and of course BBCHW for the finalist commendation award for the team.

Bredon Hancocks CE first school join Anti-Litter campaign

On 7th & 8Th July 2022 I had the plesure of visiting Bredon Hancocks village school to complete the litter workshop sessions throughout the whole school classes. We started with reception class around their school playing areas and they found litter dating back 2 years, then we went off-site to the local park area where litter was found dating back 8 years, we went around the school playing fields with the younger year groups then off site to the local church yard with year 5. I always challenge the pupils to add in a little extra fun to the workshops and the children yet again surprised me with the litter finds.

Througout the district I have a litter competition with the schools for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place catorgory for which schools find the oldest piece of litter. I can confirm they Bredon Hancocks is currently in first place with their Whitticker & Sons jam jar lid from 1890's. WOW well done to the pupils of this school for this amazing vinatge litter find.

Invited back to complete the class workshops

On 30th June 2022 I was invited back to Breforton Village School to complete a workshop with Reception class and asked if I could take the Eco Committee out litter picking in the community park. In November I had the pleasure of working with Jo Ellis their Eco School lead and an inspiration of passion about the environement. I completed litter workshops with their classes and on my return I was delighted to have made such an impression on the pupils. I was on many notice boards from this visit and their passion showed through their writting and actions.

The litter pick sessions were brilliant and the children learnt all about packaging materials and what bin they should be placed in. The community litter pick was also shocking as what seemed like a litter free community space the pupils filled their buckets and their oldest find was a top deck can pre 1989. WOW

Kevin Riley the head teacher has written a lovley email to Nina as I am a finalist for BBC Hereford and Worcester for their Make A difference award. Kevin said

Hi Nina,

I understand that Karen Blanchfield has been shortlisted in the Environmental category for BBC Hereford and Worcester Make a Difference Awards. I just wanted to share with you our experiences of working with Karen this year as she has had a massive impact on the learning and attitudes of the children here at Bretforton Village School.

Karen worked with us last year, sharing with us the story of Boyan Slat and his efforts to clean up rivers, particularly in relation to single-use plastic. The children loved hearing about him, and Karen's assembly to the children inspired several of them to do litter picks in their own neighbourhood. She led sessions in each class where she showed the children the kind of littering that happened locally and how much had been left in what looked like clean areas. The children's understanding of the impact of litter increased enormously because of Karen's passionate delivery of the information she shared and over the course of the year, this has been sustained in and out of school, with children being eager to clean up the local area but also to ensure that they do not leave litter behind them. Most recently, Karen came back into school and worked with our youngest children and such was the impact of her previous visit and assembly, they were able to recall the key messages she had delivered and talk about what they had done to improve their local environment as a result. This is the greatest testament I can give, to the work that Karen has done to make a difference and why her work with us has been so impactful.

Holy Redeemer Reception class and their Eco committee find vinatge litter

I visited the school back in November to complete 5 litter workshops however reception class were unable to participate so it was lovely to be invited back to see them. I was also asked to take out the eco commitee into the community to help them support their adopt a street commitement with Wychavon district council.

Reception class litter picked their school grounds finding litter that had been there a couple of months and they were determined to litter pick every piece big or small they could see. Well done reception.

The eco committee headed out into the community with huge determination to fill up their buckets with litter, 12 pupils investigated bushes, hedgerows and community paths were we found a bush that had been filled with drinks cans, food packaging and glass miniture bottles. Litter dating back 2012 was found and the evidence was plain to see that its adults that litter.

Claines CE First School returns to support the Anti-litter Campaign

Claines CE First School find vintage litter dating 1930's-1940's

On 21st June 2022 I return to visit the pupils at claines CE First school. Children are incredibly passionate about the environment and they know right from wrong. The litter educational sessions opens the pupils eyes to how disrepectful humans have been to their planet. Children inspire me too in these sessions, I show them the fun side of litter picking and they just seen to hunt litter out from all areas. The pupils here at Claines did just that to both me and the teaching staff. Year 4 decided to stay onsite to litter pick the school grounds and give the school a big school clean up. I had visited these pupils when they were in year 3 and they continued to inspire me with their knowledge of litter and the environmental issues litter causes. Their determination to hunt out every piece lead to some amazing vinatge finds onsite. This surprised us all as we could not believe what they dragged out from behind the school hedge barriers. The onsite finds were a hula hoop packet dating back 1982 and other crisp packets from 1990's.

Our second workshop with year 5 was equally surprising as we headed out in to the community and down to Claines church grounds. I love litter picking church grounds as we have in the past found some very old pieces embeded in the over growth and year 5 did not let us down finding a old meat paste jar from the 1930's-1940's.

I would like to thank Jo from year 4 who welcomed me back to complete the litter session for the second year running and the school support with our districts anti-litter campaign.

Harvington CE First School visit 20th & 27th June

The pupils of Harvington CE first school once again inspired the teaching staff with their litter finds throughout the two day litter workshops completed in June. Over 170 pupils participated in five litter workshops hunting out litter that dated back to 1992. As the picture shows many items found will trigger many memories from the past, these finds definatley highlighted the issues we face as litter pickers where we see just how long litter remains in the environment and the damage the packaging material has when left for decades. This was my second visit to the school as I had visited the previous academic year, it was lovley to hear how I had enthused the pupils in keeping their school and community litter free and how many children had continued their litter picking endevours. One of my passions is to teach the children within our district to become the adult heroes for the environment and these pupils are doing this now. This is the greatest reward I could ever wish for and I thank the pupils and teaching staff for their support with Wychavon's Anti-litter Campaign.

Cleeve Prior School pupils WOW with litter hunt find

On the 16th June I revisited Cleave Prior School to take the willow class of 14 pupils on a litter pick session. I always worry when I revisit because after I have visited the first time most schools put a litter management school routine in place. However once again children surprise me with their determination and enthusiam to find litter. These school pupils did just that! After arriving on site I did a site check before the session and found the area very litter free, well so I thought. After talking with the pupils we started the litter hunt around the playing fields and on to the park area, to our surprise there had been some work completed where they had taked out an old hedge. This is the area where litter was found most was burried a little. As you can see from the photo this litter had remained in the enviroment for a long time with the oldest piece being a Hula Hoop crisp packed that had a sell by date of 1985. Incredible

3rd Droitwich (St Peter's Scouts join Wychavon's Anti-litter Campaign

On 13th June 2022 I had the pleasure of visiting the Droitwich Scouts to take them through the litter workshop. Some of the scouts recognised me from when I visited their school and they were a dab hand in hunting out the litter. They found litter that dated back 12 years and managed to collect four bags of litter and even filled a bucket they found to. We litter picked for about one hour around their scout hut in the community areas and their enthusiam was a delight. I look forward to revisiting this group next year to help clean up their community areas which also helps towards some of their badge work criterias. #skillsforlife #communityimpact #MakeADifference

Eckington First School find litter from 1930's WOW

What a great couple of sessions we had here, the start of the day seen us visit the local church yard to hunt out the litter on route and in the church yard itself. Next to the church yard there is a housing estate however a public house once stood there many decades ago. One pupil manage to find a whisky miniture bottle and on investigation this bottle dated back to 1930's - 1940's era. The pupils also found a crisp packet from 2010 that had been in the environment for 12 years until they picked it up. wow

The younger children took part in a litter workshop on their school grounds to give their school a big clean, litter of 9 years old was found on the boundary of the school.

This was a lovely morning and I thank the pupils and thier teachers for the warm welcome. I look forward to returning to see the childrens litter lady.

Hanbury CE First school join the Wychavon's Anti-litter Campaign

Hanbury CE First School definitely leads the way in being one of the best Eco Schools I have ever visited.

On 6th & 7th June I visited Hanbury CE First school to deliver the litter workshop to every class this seen 130 pupils participate over two days. I was absolutley blown away by this school as their Eco ethos takes environmental awareness to the next level. From Classrooms decorated sustainably, wasting less and the whole standard of Keeping their school clean and tidy is something else. I have visited many schools and when you meet likeminded passionate eco warriors it shows and glows throughout these pupils for life.

The day started with the whole school assembly that really does inspire and set the events pace. Then on to the little ones where I asked them to litter pick their school grounds and although the school is very litter concious these little warriors proved us wrong picking up every little piece they could find. The other two classes ventured out in to the community areas and I was once again blown away with the teachers committement to outdoor learning.

Day two seen three more litter workshops with the other year groups and just when I thought I was in the cleanest town yet again the pupils proved me wrong. This class dressed as as romans found a fly-tipped area in the bushes and I helped clean it out safely. This was then collected by Wychavon council the very next day ensuring that no child was left worrying about the dangers this waste would have on the local wildlife.

Thank you to all the inspriational staff and children for a fun two days litter hunting and I have to say I will never be able to walk through a cow field again. lol

It was wet, it was cold but these wonderful cubs from Wyre Forest Scouts 11th Broadwaters group went out and about around springfield park in #kidderminster to litter pick and clean up the environment for their community & the wildlife. Huge congratulations to this cub pack they enjoyed every minute and as you can see from the pictures they found a lot of litter. Thank you to Daisy Sands for organising this event for her cubs.

Bengeworth Acadamy wow their community

Visited on May 16th & May 17th 2022

WOW WOW WOW What a visit this turned out to be, we completed 6 litter workshops over two days that seen 540 pupils participate in the biggest clean up i have ever known. Huge thank you to Bengeworth CE Academy for inviting me to support the pupils Eco Week. The pupils litter picked their #community areas, learnt about #recycling and how litter can impact our local #environment when littered. The pupils were incredible ambassadors to their school finding litter that dated back to early 1990's. They completed some classroom eco sessions and shared their work with me. Thank you all we had fun in the sun and your completed work is very inspirational.

Birmingham Scout group clean up their Acocks Green Community

192nd St Georges own scout group tackled their community litter

A little bit our of my usual area but great to revisit the 192nd St Georges beavers and cubs to complete two litter workshops. The beavers tackled the school ground of Holy Souls RC primary school finding litter from early 1990's and making sure the school recreational areas were left litter free. The cubs completed their workshop off-site as we ventured around the community of Acocks Green. As you can see from the pictures we had no trouble in finding litter and they filled 11 bags of litter in a short amount of time. When you return to inner city areas you can see where the litter problems need addressing and unfortunatley this area is one of them. Such a shame but the cubs cleaned up brilliantly. well done kids

Scouts clean up big time finding lots of vintage litter

The Scout troop of Wyre Forest 15th Habberley troop were sent off around their Rhydd Covert campsite to litter pick and hunt out some vintage finds. After two hours the scouts collatively collected 11 bags of litter with litter dating back to the 1990's. Their enthusiasm and determination to keep going was incredible to witness and my pride for this litter pick effort shone bright. Huge thanks to all the scouts just a brilliant job once again.

Wednesday 4th May seen the Wyre Forest Scouts from 11th Broadwaters group litter pick their community area of Springfield park in #kidderminster. The Beavers did an excellent job of hunting out the litter and their oldest find was a @Walkers crisp packet dating back to 1996. WOW.

That was a truly inspirational litter pick of the community areas WF11 brilliantly done.

Ombersley Endowed First school revisited

Some school do not share photots of their pupils for websites and this is completed understandable. However here is the write up for the amazing day that I spent with the school pupils in Ombersley.

I had visited this school last year and it was lovely to be asked to revisit. The day started off with a whole school assembly where I explained what impact litter has on the ocean and how the pupils can be heroes in their own community just like Boyan Slat is the heroe of the ocean.

I then proceeded to complete 5 litter workshops on the school grounds with a total of 134 pupils joining in their big school clean. I took with me a few litter games and the pupil engaged brilliantly and they all learnt how Wychavons bin waste works and what can be recycled from home. A great visit with a bit of a difference.

On 28th April 2022 I had the pleasure to revisit Cropthorne with Charlton first school where I completed the assembly presentation and three litter workshops. 80 pupils enjoyed the litter hunt that seen us clean up the school grounds, local park and community areas. The children found litter dating back 12 years and managed to fill 6 bags of rubbish throughout the day. We all had so much fun and the children were a joy to work with. Well done to all the teachers and pupils involved. The school has signed up to adopt their street incitive with Wychavon council that will see 10 sets of equiptment donated to them so they can continue the great litter picking work.

The beavers litter picked the riverside park In #Stouport and found litter dating back to 2006. The young litter super heroes had fun whilst helping to keep their community clean and the wildlife safe. Thanks to the leaders for inviting me back to run the session. I had so much fun with the pupils and teachers at Fladbury first school on 31st March helping the school with their big school clean. The pupils litter pick their school grounds and community areas. We had a full fun packed day of litter hunting and the pupils were asking how they could litter pick at home with their families. The children hunted out litter that had been left in the environment for many decades leaving the children shocked at why humans can cause so much damage by not disposing of the litter correctly. My word as always to the pupil is "PROUD" because they work with enthusiasm and pride when helping the wildlife to remain safe. 1st Evesham Scouts Join GBSC campaign

I was invited to join in 1st Hampton Beavers and Scouts sections #GBSpringclean litter pick around the community of Evesham earning the scouts their Great British Spring Clean Badge. I spent two evening with each group and enjoyed the excitement when some vintage litter was found. Our scouting program includes community impact sessions where the children volunteer around their community in some way to help and benefit the towns. Litter picking is a great lesson but also a great community impact activity. Wychavon district council fund the litter workshop sessions 100% free to groups that fall under their district.

Wychavon Schools lead with nation in litter educational workshops

This academic year has seen little litter warriors educate 1103 children about the impact #litter has in the environment and our planet. I am fortunate to have Wychavon District Council sponsor this program as part of their #antilittercampaign, this support has allowed me to reach more children through schools and community groups. The total number of children now educated on litter in the Wychavon district with the litter workshops is 3110 since March 2020. My overall total since 2018 is a massive 11,120 kids educated. Changing future behaviours around individuals litter management decisions is a must to help make our planet and local communities in Worcestershire thrive.

The #gbspringclean 2022 seen 728 kids litter picking with the program in support of Keep Britain Tidy’s national #campaign with the #BigSchoolclean and the Great British Spring Clean.

Times are changing and litter picking is becoming a family friendly activity rather than “leave it someone will pick it up”.

Evesham Schools participate in #GBSpringclean & #GBSchoolclean

386 children have taken part in spring cleaning their school and Evesham community areas finding some vintage litter dating back 33 years.

The school campaign was launched in mid-march 2020 and has educated over 2393 children on the litter course, with free educational sessions provided in schools by Wychavon District Council. The whole program has been 100% funded by the council and schools across the district are booking in their pupils to participate in this fun outdoor litter workshop.

386 pupils have taken part in the Great British School Clean part of Keep Britain Tidy's #GBSpringclean campaign. The children hunted for litter finding litter in the community that included some vintage finds included a Quavers packet dating back to 1977, a Barr Wild Cola drink can from 1987 and a Walkers crisp packet dating back to 1993.

Today 100 pupils litter picked for the #GBschoolclean

Today seen 100 pupils from Ashton Underhill First School litter pick their school and community areas with Little litter Warriors. Four litter workshops were completed and the children found litter with sell by dates of 2006 & 2007. The school got involved as part of Wychavon’s anti-litter campaign that is funded by the council. Today was also Keep Britain Tidy #GBSpringclean launch day that will see thousands of volunteers pick up their litter pickers nationally in a aid to spring clean Britain until 10th April.

The pupils did an amazing job and were great ambassadors to litter and their school. The enthusiastic bunch cleared areas of the school, community streets, cricket club and local recreational areas collecting bags full of litter.

Karen's comment: This is a great way to kick off Keep Britain Tidy campaign #gbschoolclean and it is fabulous that so many Wychavon schools are involved with this educational program. The anti-litter educational days are to build litter awareness within our communities, engaging the children through the school program to become litter warriors of the future. Each school receives equipment after the visit and this litter equipment can be signed out with any pupil who wishes too continue to litter pick with their families.

Swan Lane First School vintage litter finds

School become clear of litter dating back to 1993 and completes 11 litter workshops

Little litter warriors spent four days at Swan Lane First School delivering 11 litter workshops to their 281 pupils. On the first day pupils hunted in the schools hedge rows and pulled out a crisp packet that dated 1997 and had been in the bush for 25 years. Armed with their litter pickers the pupils were determined to collect as much bush litter as possible however we needed a longer picker. The first day seen 80 pupils clean up the schools front area with two workshops venturing out and about in to Evesham town centre. Over the next three days visit a total of 22 bags of litter was collected and vintage litter was found on the rugby club car park and the town centre too. All of the pupils were determined to win the challenge of the oldest piece of litter find and they did not let us down. The litter finds were a Smiths quavers packet dating 1977, A Barr Wild Cola drinks can 1987 and walkers crisp packets dating 1993.

Vale of Evesham compete 3 litter workshops

Little litter warriors are Vale Of Evesham's super stars

39 Pupils from Vale of Evesham helped to litter pick their school grounds and local community areas. We had a lovely day completing three litter workshops and filling up four bags of litter. These middle school pupils and sixth formers enjoyed litter picking and found litter from 2002 and 1994.

This is my second visit to the school and it was lovely to see how the pupils had implemented their litter pickers into their school routine. As we litter picked the school grounds if was quite difficult to find litter, as you can imagine this was delightful to see. I would like to thank the pupils for engaging regularly in their litter picking activity on school grounds it really has made a difference.

The vintage litter below was found in the Evesham town recreational areas. The Yorkie bar is famous in the UK for its former tag line: "It's not for girls." Nestlé first launched the slogans "Don't feed the birds," "Not available in pink," and "King size not queen size" in 2002, but the bar has always been targeted at men ever since its inception.

The crisp packet age can be identified by its sell by date and proves that plastic can remain in the environment for years.

Monday 28th February 2022 seen 74 pupils become litter warriors. The school grounds and local community areas were spring cleaned removing 8 bags of litter. Lots of fun was had hunting out the hidden gems finding a crisp packet of 12 years old. The pupils were brilliantly enthusiastic and asked me to return so that they could litter pick again, with one child letting me know that she was going to be a litter picker when she grows up. 10.000 milestone reached

Since 2018 I have been on a mission to educate as many children as possible with my fun and engaging litter pick workshops. I have now reached 10.102 children. I first started my journey with The Pickup artists volunteering countless hours of my time in schools and community groups that have seen over 8,000 children complete my litter educational workshops. Since March I have been working with Wychavon council to educate their school pupils that has now achieved over 2000 pupils.

The junior pickup artists was where it all began when I was able to obtain a community grant for £1000 with Aviva community grants. St Barnabas First and Middle School take on litter to save the wildlife

On Monday 8th November 2021 we visited the pupils of year 3 at St Barnabas First and Middle school in Pershore to help them litter pick their school grounds to help improve the natural environment for the wildlife. The pupils enthusiasm was infectious and they hunted out litter from the outer parameters of the school grounds. Through the fencing the children managed to find litter with a sell by date of 2005. They filled every bucket and managed to fill two bags of rubbish from their community areas. The children's knowledge of the damage litter is having on our planet was clear to see and added to their mornings enthusiasm to make sure they picked up every piece of litter they could find.

Pupils aspire to help the planet during COP26 week

On Tuesday 2nd November 2021 little litter warriors was invited to Bretforton village school for the day to talk rubbish. The day began with a whole school assembly where the children learnt about the impact litter is having on our planet. The younger pupils took part in some litter games in the classroom and the older pupils litter picked their school ground and the local community areas. The litter workshops engage the children to the fun side of litter picking as Karen challenges the pupils to hunt out vintage litter. The oldest litter find was a drinks can with a sell by date of 2002 which is 19 years old. The pupils were surprised that this litter had remained in the environment for so long but happy that they had contributed to help save the planet.

Karen’s comment, I spent a lovely day with the children and I was inspired by their knowledge and enthusiasm around litter and the damage litter is having on the wildlife. The pupils expressed how they were keen to continue to help prevent littering by wanting to take their families out on their own litter pick hunt.

The school has now signed up to Wychavon’s adopt a street initiative and will receive 10 sets of litter picking equipment from the council to help them continue to keep their community litter free. Little litter warriors is a litter prevention educational program run by Karen Blanchfield a Litter heroes Ambassador for Keep Britian Tidy. The program is funded by Wychavon council as part of their anti litter campaign and offered to all their schools across the district.

Head teacher Kevin Riley was “delighted” to have been involved.

He said: “As a school that takes environmentalism very seriously, having gained six previous Eco Green Flags, we are always keen to learn more about how we can improve our local area and to develop the children's knowledge of how their actions impact the world around them.

“The children had a very enjoyable time collecting litter from around the village and it was really interesting to find out just how long some of the litter had been left there for.”

Scouts find Victorian litter treasures

Wednesday 9th June seen 21 scouts and 3 leaders from 14th Wyre Forest (Rhydd Covert) Scout troop Litter pick their scout campsite in support of The Great British Spring Clean and #proudtopick Campaigns. The scouts were shown a selection of my vintage litter during the workshop introduction and given the challenge to go and hunt me out some old litter finds whilst they litter picked.

To be fare the campsite was quite litter free and we did struggle to find litter which was wonderful to experience and then the scouts stumbled on an area on site where some work is being carried out to improve the campsites drainage from a water tap. The area has been dug up and there we found the buried Victorian litter that turned out to be they oldest litter that children have ever found on one of my litter educational workshops. This was a true treasure hunt.

• Holbrook & Co sauce glass bottle in circa 1890-1910

• Table Spoon glass bottle with Mil marking was the oldest find made in 1830’s and was used right the way through the Victorian era until 20th century until 1930’s.

• Foster Clark ltd Lemonade glass bottle in circa 1910-1950

Each scout has taken a bottle home to wash and study to find when, where and who made the bottle and what dates they were in production. The scouts were absolutely determined to dig up everyone amounting in over 40 glass bottles, glass jars and glass containers. The scouts did fantastic which amounted to 3 full litter bags to go towards #proudtopick campaign. The best part to the whole evening is that the scouts went home raving about the litter pick and how they want to litter pick more with their families to hunt what other treasure may be hiding in our wonderful county. Each scout has been awarded a Great British spring clean badge reward.

Cropthorne with Charlton school leading sustainability in Wychavon

Meet Mrs Komor who is leading her school to waste less and become more sustainable.

Today I visited Cropthorne with Charlton CofE first school in Pershore to take the pupils of year 2 on the litter pick workshop. Whilst there I witnessed what I wished more school would do. In a time where we all need to reduce our waste you witness a school doing just that. One of their sustainable options is the milk that is delivered by the milkman in glass reusable bottles that they return and the milk is served in reusable cups. The have ditched the carton and straws yea. I have visited many schools in the past three years and have picked up many milk carton straws and their plastic packets from school grounds. It was lovely to witness the pride the pupils and teachers had of reducing their waste in this school. Tremendously inspirational.

17Th Wyre Forest Stourport (Mid Severn) Sea scouts join The Great British Spring Clean 2021 #Millionmilemission

Every year my wonderful scout troop join and support my Great British Spring Clean campaign and this year our troop made us incredibly #proudtopick. Burlish Top Nature reserve bike track is guaranteed to have litter and bags full of it. Our scout group from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts take pride in returning to this nature reserve regularly to litter pick what can only be described as a grot spot. Within an hour these amazing kids filled 21 bags full of litter as they were challenged by me to find some old vintage gems. Crisp packets from 2000, 1989, 2004 were among the litter treasures found.

A huge thank you to 17th Wyre Forest Stourport (mid Seven) sea scout troop for their continued support in the Great British Spring Clean campaign as they also contributed to 51 miles to the @KeepBritianTidy #millionmilemission and supported our local BBC Hereford and Worcester radio's #proudtopick campaign too with there 21 bag total.

Ombersley Brownies vintage litter finds

Community Groups are join in on Little litter warriors litter hunts

On the evening of 27th May I was invited to the 1st Ombersley Brownies to take the girls on a litter pick around the memorial park and local community areas. The girls were brilliant at hunting our litter especially vintage litter. Take a look at the photos of the litter they found in the Ombersley memorial park. It dates from 1970’s, 1980’s and upwards. Just incredible the amount and I’m so proud of the girls determination and enthusiasm to get into the hedges to find it all. Two bags of litter was collected in total. Thank you to the Brownies and leaders for a lovely evening out and about in the great outdoor.

Tomorrow sees the launch of Keep Britain Tidy #GBSpringClean and the countries efforts to complete #MillionMileMission. Tonight the brownies completed 54 miles towards this mission (based on amount of time litter picking and how many people picked)

Claines Primary school Year 4 pupils clean up Brum Park

What a wonderful day to kick off the #GBSpringClean.

Introducing Claines CofE Primary school pupils of year 4 who today took part in our litter workshop which seen the pupils of year 4 take on the challenge to pick the litter up in their community. We walked from the school to The Brum Park. The journey to the park seen the children's buckets filling up with the litter and the oldest piece found on the walk to the park was 2018 crisp packet. Their determination and enthusiasm was infectious as they were definitely #proudtopick up every piece of litter they could find.

At the Brum park the pupils took on the challenge to find the oldest piece of litter found off-site so far by a Wychavon school pupil. The oldest find found in the community areas currently stands with Tom from a Pershore school with a 1981 crisp packet. The pupils took the challenge on and hunted out many wonderful finds one especially from 2011 which today was their oldest find. The sunshine was out and we collected three bags of litter and hunted out litter that had been in the environment for many years. Well done children and thank you for cleaning up the Claines community.

Thank you to the teaching staff who had to work hard in completing the litter bingo sheets for the litter class room activity.

21st May Sedgeberrow pupils become litter radio stars

Sedgeberrow pupils help launch #Proudtopick litter campaign for BBC Hereford and Worcester radio.

On Friday morning I had the pleasure of visiting Sedgeberrow First School to take the children from the year 3 class out on a litter pick workshop. I have to say this school is one of the cleanest litter free Wychavon schools I have visited so far. I only managed to find a few pieces of litter onsite that was dated this year 2021. A litter free area is all litter pickers dream of and I was absolutely in ore of this schools efforts towards their litter free environment.

Nicola Goodwin from BBC Hereford & Worcester joined in on the Little litter warriors workshop and seen first hand how amazing these pupils were on their litter pick. We walked through the beautiful village of Sedgeberrow that too was very litter free and litter picked the park area. Although the village was mainly litter free the children managed to hunt out a few hidden pieces of litter dating 2008, 2012 & 2004. We managed to fill two bags of litter and of course support the #proudtopick campaign where the pupils had the chance to view their thoughts on litter louts whilst completing our #millionmilemission in support of the #GBSpringclean.

18th May 2021 Witton Middle School visit

Witton Middle school year 6 pupils find litter dated 1992

On Tuesday 18th May I visited Witton Middle School in Droitwich where the pupils from year 6 took part in our litter pick workshop.

The school children enjoyed the litter pick engaging in all the litter challenges set. Witton School is now in the lead with the oldest piece of litter found on a school site. 2 pupils were excited to find a 29 year old drinks Orangina can that has now put these children in the lead of the school competition. The children realised the impact litter has on the environment when littered and were shocked to find multiple pieces of dated litter. 1992, 2002, 2007, 2009 & 2013 were just some of the dates on the pupils litter finds. The school has committed to #adoptastreet initiative with Wychavon.

Throughout the workshop the children filled 5 Wychavon bags of litter and contributed in asking lots of questions. The children were a credit to their school and I have now been invited back to take another 7 classes aged between 11-13 years old out and about to litter pick more of the school grounds and local community areas. This is incredibly exciting to have a school support our litter fight in such a positive way and I thank the eco team and teachers for supporting our Wychavon's anti-litter campaign.

Vale Of Evesham student committed to their #adoptastreet initiative With Wychavon

On Friday 14th May I took the students from year 7 through the little litter warriors litter workshop. We ventured out into the community to litter pick the areas around the school. The pupils from Vale of Evesham School showed incredible knowledge about the environment crisis and of course educated us all on their views about litter. Not all students are allowed in these pictures however I think you will all agree the students that are in them represent their school and the fellow students excellently.

Vale of Evesham have signed up to Wychavon #adoptastreet initiative and it was a pleasure to join them on their first adopt a street clean up and showing them how to log their achievements with the their local district council.

13th May 2021 Orchard Primary school visit

Orchard Primary schools litter warriors find a 2001 yogurt packet

On Thursday 13th May I had the pleasure of visiting the pupils of year 2 & 3 at Orchard primary school. The sunshine was asleep whilst the rain came down but it did not stop these determined pupils hunt to find the oldest piece of litter on their school grounds. Between the two glass sessions pupils competed against their fellow students but both classes drew as they both found yogurt packets dating 2001. The interesting moment was when the pupils found the same branded yogurt packets that were dates 2021, 2004 & 2001 is that the only thing that you could see to tell the difference between them was the sell by date. The older packets had not faded and were as strong and the 2021 packet.

The pupils picked their school grounds and forest school areas finding many food on the go purchased packets littered dating 2012, 2008, 2019, 2020, 2021. I total the pupils filled three bags of litter from their school grounds.

The children had a wonderful time hunting and wanted to know where they could purchase their own litter pickers so they could litter pick with the families outside of school.

"It was such a lovely experience that we had and the children were all talking about it. The session has really motivated some of our children to really want to take an interest in the environment and want to help the wildlife and make the world a cleaner place."

On Tuesday 11th May Harvington school children took part in the litter workshop. Three classes from Year 3,4 & 5 took to their community streets and recreational areas to litter pick. The children were an absolute pleasure to teach and they were incredibly determined to pick up every piece of litter they could find resulting in 6 full bags of litter. There oldest find was a beer aluminum can dating back to 1997 and a crisp packet 2012. The children found litter that was recently dropped and litter that we class as vintage that they will use with little litter warriors classroom resource.

The school has also signed up to Wychavon's #adoptastreet commitment.

10th May 2021 Pebworth School visit

Little litter warriors visited Pebworth First School

On Monday 10th May Pebworth First School took part in a litter pick workshop. All the students from the school cleaned their school grounds, local community areas and their local park. The children were wonderful litter warriors and managed to fill their bucket with fabulous litter delights dating back to 2012.

The pupils were a credit to the their school and teachers by asking lots of questions about the environment. Throughout the whole morning even in the rain the children remained engaged in their litter challenges.

This was a great start to #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek2021 and I really enjoyed my morning with the school.

Pebworth First school has now adopted their school community areas with Wychavon #adoptastreet initiative supporting Wychavon’s anti-litter campaign.

As part of the #GBSpring2021 Keep Britain Tidy are asking litter pickers to record their litter miles. The pupils have logged 32 miles towards Keep Britain Tidy’s #MillionMileMission based on number of pupils litter picking and their time spent litter picking. Well done children

7th May Chawson first school visit

Chawson first school join Wychavon's anti-litter campaign

On Friday 7th May Little litter warriors visited Chawson First school in Droitwich. The children from 4SR litter picked their school grounds and local community areas. The children were incredible ambassadors for their school whilst out and about litter picking in the community respecting the social distancing rules and cleaning up the litter.

The children found over 150 cigarette buds, an 18 year old crisp packet and a chocolate wrapper which was dated 2013 during their litter pick that seen them collect 4 bags of litter. Well done children.

4SR had an interesting time litter picking in the community today with Karen from Little Litter Warriors Ltd in conjunction with Wychavon District Council. One of the children found a crisp packet which was 18 years old, more than double the age of the children! Another child found a chocolate bar wrapper which was circa 2013.

Chawson school are also eco warriors as they are recycling at school and shall be sending 24.2kg of old writing instruments off to Terracycle next week. What a staggering amount of pens that shall be saved from landfill! Parents and community members are also welcome to bring their old pens in from home and drop them in the box in the school reception area as they are the only drop-off point within 5 miles. Defford-Cum-Besford CE First school

Defford-Cum-Besford school visit

On Thursday 22nd April I visited Defford-Cum-Besford CE first school that seen 21 children from year 1 & year 2 take part in an educational litter pick workshop. The children were very knowledgeable about the environment and ask lots of questions about litter. Throughout the visit the sun was shining as we made our way around the schools community of Defford. The village was very clean however the children were determined to hunt litter out. We arrived at Millennium Green park where the children hunted out some incredible litter finds dating back 6 years. Due to the park area being fairly litter free we headed down the public footpath where the children found may items and a yogurt pot lid cover dating back to 2002. As you can see from the pictures the children enjoyed themselves, the weather was beautiful and the views across the countryside were stunning.

We had a lovely afternoon and the pupils were a credit to their teachers and school. I look forward to returning to take the other year groups out and about.

The children managed to fill two bin bags and also found large pieces of wood and a plastic basket. The school has committed to adoptastreet Wychavon incentive that will see the school take care of the litter around the school community streets. Well done kids.

Norton Juxta Kempsey primary school

26th March 2021 Norton Juxta Kempsey Primary school

Today visit seen every pupil in the school from reception to year 6 take part in a litter pick activity. The morning was spent with children from Willow, Rowan, Hazel and Oak classes litter picking their school grounds. A reception pupil from the willow class came running up to me with her litter picker raised to show me that she had found half a grass snake. Her very proud achievement seen us all smile (and shiver a little) as we congratulated her on her find. This as an ambassador was a first for me as no one has ever found a snake before. The children from Willow were the clear winners of the day as they found the oldest piece of litter of 12 years slightly buried in the soil under a tree. Brilliantly spotte d and this piece of litter helped with the rest of this visits educational events as the children from other year groups recognised the snack packet straight away.

On a more serious note the children loved the litter pick activity and their infectious enthusiasm was witness as they raced around to find the oldest piece of litter throughout my litter challenges.

The afternoon seen key stage 2 classes Ash, Maple & Elm take to the schools community streets to litter pick showing incredible community support. Ash class made their way to the recreational park where one pupil found a crisp packet dating back 10 years but I have to say the community areas were impressively very clean.

Maple and Elm are the oldest year groups in the school so I set them a slightly harder challenge to clear up as we headed along a public footpath. The teachers were surprised at the amount of plastic waste the children found in such a short amount of time. Personally children never shock me as they are incredible at hunting out litter and this visit did not let us down as over all the children collected 7 bags of litter in total.

I wanted to email you to tell you what a fantastic time we had with Karen from Little Litter Warriors. She delivered litter picking sessions to the entire school in one day, which was a brilliant achievement! Every class enjoyed the sessions immensely and the whole school was buzzing with excitement afterwards. The children certainly became more aware of the impact that litter has on our local environment- particularly wildlife.

Communication with Karen in the lead up to the visit and on the day itself was excellent. She was very engaging and ensured all children were involved and felt successful. It was fascinating to see the litter that she brought in from so long ago!

Our First Wychavon School visit

We visited Cleave Prior CE primary school on 16th March 2021

Little litter warriors visited Cleave Prior primary school in Evesham on 16th March 2021. 38 Children participated in the in the litter educational program that seen the children collect 3 bags of litter. The litter hunt activity seen one pupil win the competition for the oldest litter find being a 22 year old crisp packet.

School Comment

On Tuesday 16th March, we were joined by the Little Litter Warriors

whose mission is to raise awareness of the problem of littering in

the Wychavon area and to encourage children to take responsibility

for their rubbish and also take pride in their environment. The

children worked really hard all afternoon collecting litter and it was

astonishing, and disappointing, how much litter had ended up on

the field.

We visited Upton Snodsbury primary school 22nd March 2021

On 22nd March 2021 little litter warriors visited Upton Snodbury Primary school to deliver the educational litter program to the pupils. 71 children took part in the litter program throughout the day. During the litter hunt the children were challenged to find the oldest piece of litter. This school and village was extremely clean but the oldest find for this visit was a 9 year old crisp packet.

Teachers comments

Karen from Little Litter Warriors came in on Monday and talked to the whole school about litter, how it doesn't biodegrade quickly, how it affects animals and what the children can do about it. The children collected litter around the school grounds and also Year 3/4 walked to the park and collected litter there and on the footpaths on the way. We collected over 2 bags of rubbish and

the oldest piece of litter was 9 years old! As part of Wychavon- Adopt a Street Campaign, the school has adopted the streets around the school and the local park as part of it's commitment to keeping their environment as litter free as Little litter warriors educational visits are 100% funded by Wychavon council for all Wychavon schools.

Little litter warrior visited Ombersley primary school where children from KS1 & KS2 took part in a litter hunt around their school grounds. Around 80 children took part in the educational morning that seen the oldest litter find being 12 years old. A teacher introduced me to two children who For the next 30 days, Jacob and Barney have pledged to complete 30 minutes of litter picking every day (rain or sunshine!) to help raise funds to help other children needing that extra help.

so far these boys have raised an incredible £3065 for The Worcester Rainbow Project.

Abbey Park Primary school visit 26th March 2021

Little litter warriors visited Abbey Park Primary school that seen two Y6 classes take part in the litter educational litter events. The pupils told me all about their inspirational project 'Driving to be Green’ that seen both classes plant 30 trees on their school grounds.

Both classes went litter picking in Abbey Park that seen over 11 bags of litter collected.

Thanks again for a fantastic workshop on Thursday, the children are still talking about it now and haven’t stopped litter picking ever since! The crisp packet Tom found from 1981 has become the most treasured item in our school, what a great way to teach and motivate the youth of today to pick up littler!

On Thursday we held a ‘Driving to be Green’ day in school, to highlight some of these issues and to think about what we can do to create a much greener planet.

As part of the day Karen Blanchfield came into school on behalf of the ‘Litter Warriors’ initiative, which is backed by Wychavon Council. Karen ran a workshop teaching the pupils about all of the issues caused by litter, including; plastic pollution in the ocean, the threat to wildlife and health issues for humans. Each Y6 class were then taken litter picking in Abbey Park where they were set a range of challenges relating to the litter they could find, one child (Tom) even found a crisp packet dating back to 1981! @ecoschools @keepbritaintidy #GBSpringClean #ecoschools
